ALTON AND CHAWTON JANE AUSTEN REGENCY DAY
Saturday 20th June 2026
10.00am - 3.00pm
Step back in time and experience the elegance of the Regency era at Alton’s annual Regency Day on Saturday 20 June. Held along the High Street from 10:00am to 3:00pm, this free event forms part of the town’s popular Jane Austen Regency Week, celebrating the life and legacy of Jane Austen, who lived nearby in Chawton.
Visitors can enjoy a lively programme of activities including 40 traditional market stalls, on the High Street and inside the Alton Assembly Rooms. There are also horse-drawn carriage rides running from outside Waterstones. Watch the Alton Morris Men, and historical re-enactors. Or join in with our on street Regency Dance workshops. See schedule below:
The streets will come alive with people dressed in Regency costumes, creating an authentic atmosphere inspired by early-19th-century England.
Families and visitors of all ages are welcome to explore the market, meet costumed characters, and soak up the unique charm of this historic celebration in the heart of Alton. Guests are encouraged to wear their own Regency attire and become part of the parade at 11.00am.
Or catch our full programme of entertainment.

Please be aware that there is a tree down in Flood Meadows so the path to the right when you come across the Lenten Street bridge is currently closed. Many thanks for your patience while we deal with this matter.

We are aware there is a tree down in King's Pond. Due to its location in the water and not blocking any footpath the tree is not deemed to be unsafe. Our contractor will be there first thing Monday morning to remove it.
Thank you to all those who have reported it. It is always helpful when things are reported directly to the office as we cannot have eyes and ears everywhere. To report any issues on our open spaces please call 01420 83986 or email [email protected]. Thank you.
