I had a day free from training today, so I arranged to meet with Mr Rice, Headteacher of Henry Cort Community College. As the school is located within my ward, I felt it was important to reach out and have an open discussion about the recent Ofsted report, school transport, the national teacher shortage, and the planned move to the new site in September 2027.
Having only been in post for two years, I believe Mr Rice and his staff have done an excellent job turning the school around. The recent Ofsted report speaks for itself and is a testament to the hard work of everyone involved.
We also discussed traffic management around the school. Bus drivers are now being encouraged to follow the one-way system when leaving the site rather than exiting via Hillson Drive, although there are still the occasional exceptions. It would also help ease congestion if parents dropping off and collecting children entered via Hillson Drive and exited via Thorni Avenue, reducing tailbacks at busy times.
Like many schools across the country, Henry Cort faces the challenges of a nationwide teacher shortage. Despite this, Mr Rice confirmed that the school currently has a full teaching team in place. However, the wider financial pressures facing education are one of the reasons why maintaining Henry Cort in its current form is simply not sustainable in the long term.
Finally, we spoke about the move to the new school site in September 2027. Mr Rice assured me that staff are working hard to keep students positive about the transition and are committed to making the move as smooth as possible for pupils and their families.
Thank you to Mr Rice for taking the time to meet with me and for the continued dedication shown by him and his staff. Congratulations on reaching your two-year anniversary as Headteacher, and thank you for the positive impact you have made on the school and its students in such a short space of time.

Looking for something to do this weekend? Come along to Sarisbury Green this Saturday from 12 noon and support our Hamble Valley branch as we raise some much-needed funds.
A huge amount of hard work has gone into making this event happen, especially from Josh Read Reform Candidate, who has been instrumental in pulling it all together. We'd love to see plenty of support on the day—every contribution makes a difference!
See you there! 🎉
P.S just a taster of what's on our stall
If you have an overgrown area that needs tidying up, or a location that would benefit from litter picking, please contact our REACT team. We will do our best to help make these areas safer and more pleasant for residents.
Before we can start any REACT work, we do have to get authorisation from the relevant authority/owner.
Please email [email protected] with details of the location and, if possible, include some photos so we can assess the work required.

Henry Cort & SEND | Suella Braverman I’m campaigning to see Henry Cort College reopened and transformed into a dedicated SEND facility giving children with special educational needs and disabilities the care, support, and specialist education they deserve. For too long, families in Fareham and the surrounding areas have struggled to ...
Please do help us save Henry Cort. Let's put a stop to any more houses, being crammed into an already jam packed area!!!

I was privileged to play a very small part in the Investiture of Honorary Alderman Tiffany Harper. Although I don't know the full extent of the hard work she has put into her ward over the years, I hope that, in time, I can earn the same level of respect she has achieved through her dedication and service.
A full Council meeting followed afterwards, with some interesting discussions around Local Government Reorganisation. It was encouraging to see all parties finding common ground and working together in agreement. Hopefully, there will be many more of these discussions in the coming months to ensure everyone is happy with the outcome.
As you can probably tell, it was rather windy outside the Civic Offices—although my colleague Josh Read Reform Candidate doesn't seem to show it!
