🥇🥉🥉 🥉A proud grandfather moment.

I had the pleasure of attending the BAGA Trident Classic competition over the weekend, and I left deeply impressed by the talent, discipline, and determination shown by the young gymnasts from across the region. Congratulations to all the young athletes who gave of their best!

A special congratulations to my granddaughter, Za'Nyah, who continues to strive for excellence in gymnastics. While she may not always enjoy the spotlight, you’d never know that when it is time to compete.

It was a proud moment for me to present Za’Nyah with her medals as she came away with 🥇 on vault, 🥉 on beam, 🥉 on floor, and 🥉 all around.

A surprise visit for a special lady who became part of my extended family about 40 years ago! “Eddie” is 95 now and “still got the spark”… still as sharp as ever. I was told she was asking for me, and since she doesn’t get out much these days, I had to drop in for a visit. Her reaction says it all!

Today we proudly joined in marking World Down Syndrome Day by “rocking our socks”. This might be a small gesture but it’s a powerful message.

For me, this day is a reminder that inclusion must be intentional. It’s about creating spaces where every individual feels seen, valued, and empowered to contribute fully to our society.

We all have a role to play in building communities that embrace difference, celebrate ability, and open doors of opportunity for everyone. In this, we work against the loneliness and social isolation that too many people who are a bit different may feel.

My initial months in this role have been incredibly demanding, but what stands out is connecting with the youth and educators across the country.

Every school visit leaves me feeling invigorated, inspired, and optimistic. I appreciate the hard work of both teachers and students and eagerly anticipate what's to come!

The Sandy Lane Gold Cup is always an exciting event! The excitement, skill, culture and tradition on display make this a treasured event for many Barbadians, including me.

I extend my warmest congratulations to Jalon Samuel, whose extraordinary 7th Gold Cup victory in a thrilling finish, exemplifies dedication, perseverance and excellence.

It was my honour to preside over the Ceremonial Opening of Parliament last week.
