JOINT EXAMINATIONS WEBINAR
COECSA and Ophthalmology Foundation (OF) developed a framework for collaboration in the development, administration, and evaluation of JOINT Part 1A: Basic/Visual Sciences and Part 1B: Optics, Refraction, and Instruments Written examinations.

COECSA remains committed to establishing Fair, Defensible, and Evidence-Based Pass Marks for it's international Residency Ophthalmology Examinations, through a consistent Examinations STANDARD SETTING process.
In this regard, the COECSA Regional Exams Standard Setting team is this weekend meeting at RIIO - Rwanda International Institute of Ophthalmology in Kigali, for the periodic Standard Setting workshop in readiness for the 19th June, 2026 COECSA Written Exams.
The standard setting workshop also presents an opportunity for the COECSA Exams Team to collectively check and validate that the exam questions themselves are of good quality and balance to meet the set international exam standards.
The College would like to sincerely thank all those who have continued to work tirelessly to ensure sucessful delivery of quality COECSA exams. We particularly extend our gratitude to the Exam Question Writers, Our Exam Leads who include Dr. Tsedeke Asaminew Alemu (Rwanda), Dr. Shaffi Mdala (Malawi), Dr. Ateeq Khan (Kenya) and Dr. Meseret Ejigu (Ethiopia); as well as our Exam Coordinators and Centres spread accross the region.
