Nigeria's ability to address its security challenges and safeguard its national interests will depend not only on the strength of its armed forces, but also on the strength of its technological and industrial capabilities.
This was the central message I shared at the Omniverse Africa 3.0 Summit in Lagos, where I emphasised that national security in the 21st century, is equally determined by the ingenuity of our innovators, the strength of our digital infrastructure, the sophistication of our industrial base, and our ability to create the technologies that shape the future.
The future demands that we move beyond being consumers of defence technology and become producers of it. Security today requires more than conventional military hardware. It requires indigenous capability in unmanned systems and robotics, surveillance technologies, cybersecurity, secure communications, artificial intelligence governance, data-driven decision-making, advanced manufacturing, and the broader ecosystem that sustains technological sovereignty.
This reality is shaping our thinking at the Ministry of Defence. We are restructuring our doctrine, acquisition processes, and training to align with the demands of a rapidly evolving security environment. Our objective is to secure the nation today and build the capabilities that will secure it tomorrow.
This vision is fully aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda for industrialisation and national development. Through ongoing reforms at DICON, we are working to create an ecosystem where defence investments catalyse economic growth, stimulate high-technology employment, strengthen university research, and unlock new commercial opportunities.
We also launched the Defence Futures Lab Pathway as a platform for collaboration, capability development, and strategic foresight. It is an opportunity for innovators, startups, researchers, industry leaders, and the defence community to think ahead, organise better, and contribute to building a stronger national capability.
The nations that will lead in the decades ahead are those that invest not only in defending their sovereignty, but also in creating the technologies that sustain it.
Nigeria must be among them.

EID-EL-KABIR FELICITATIONS
In celebration of Eid-el-Kabir, I extend heartfelt congratulations and warmest regards to the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and across the globe.
This sacred season embodies the profound virtues of sacrifice, faith, and boundless compassion.
May the lessons of this occasion fortify our national cohesion and reinvigorate the commitment of the Armed Forces to secure peace across our nation.
On behalf of the Ministry of Defence, I wish all Muslim faithful a serene, harmonious, and blessed Eid-el-Kabir.

I met with the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, at the Ministry of Finance, to deliberately align our respective mandates in pursuit of national stability and progress.
Our discussions were focused on establishing a functional convergence between national security and fiscal policy. We recognize that a robust economic architecture cannot exist without absolute stability, just as sustained military operational readiness requires a predictable financial foundation.
To this end, we have engineered a purposeful synergy between the Defence and Finance Ministries. Moving forward, our operational strategies will integrate directly with economic planning to ensure that security interventions serve as active catalysts for economic confidence, market stability, and national development.
This collaboration marks a highly productive transition toward unified governance, ensuring that both sectors operate in total lockstep to secure and stabilize the nation.
I also congratulated the Honourable Minister on his appointment and wished him success in the enormous task of steering the nation’s economic direction.

Energy infrastructure is the bedrock of our economic survival. Protecting it is a non-negotiable national imperative.
Today, I hosted the executive leadership of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), led by MD/CEO Leye Falade, at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters.
We coordinated an airtight security alliance to shield Nigeria’s backbone energy assets.
Nigeria’s future runs on gas, and the only way to eliminate operational threats is through friction-free coordination between the government, our armed forces, and industry stakeholders.
To fortify our waters, I highlighted the active deployment of our specialized Maritime Task Force in the Gulf of Guinea, engineered specifically to neutralize hostile threats and insulate offshore operations from disruption.
Furthermore, with global arms markets tightening, I made it clear that Nigeria is pivotally shifting inward, aggressively boosting our homegrown defence manufacturing to guarantee self-reliance and sovereign security.
I assured the NLNG team that the Armed Forces stand fully ready to guarantee their operations proceed without interruption.
We concluded with a firm pact to deepen our tactical synergy, ensuring NLNG’s operations are bulletproof and Nigeria’s economic stamina is locked in.

Earlier today, I received Mr. Hassan Braimah, brother of the late Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah, at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja.
The immeasurable sacrifice of Brigadier General Braimah, who paid the supreme price in the theatre of operations at Benisheikh while commanding the 29 Task Force Brigade, remains seared into the conscience of our nation. Listening to his brother recount deeply evocative memories of the General’s unflinching patriotism, gallantry, and self-abnegation was profoundly stirring.
I conveyed to Mr. Hassan my promise, as I do to every family bereaved in the service of our nation, that the Armed Forces shall never forsake the loved ones of our fallen heroes.
The Ministry sustains an unassailable open-door policy, anchored on comprehensive welfare, and unfettered access to institutional support for the families of our departed heroes. Their sacrifice shall remain immortal in the annals of our nation, and their legacy will forever be venerated.

Building indigenous operational capacity while leveraging international expertise to curtail insecurity such as terrorism, banditry, maritime piracy, border infiltration and illicit resource extraction is imperative for our national defence posture.
In line with this objective, I led a Ministry delegation on a working visit to Monaco, where we held engagements with MARSS UK Ltd and its Nigerian partner, MPS Mikopowers Ltd, on the proposed Multi-domain Hybrid Intelligence Shield (HIS) initiative for the Ministry of Defence.
The sessions featured live demonstrations and technical briefings on advanced surveillance systems, AI-enabled threat detection, drone countermeasures, and integrated command-and-control solutions.
We also explored frameworks for national and regional command centres, rapid response architectures, and a Centre of Excellence dedicated to simulation, training, and doctrinal advancement.
The essence of this engagement is to reinforce a more responsive, technology-driven defence ecosystem that strengthens situational awareness, improves coordination across the Armed Forces and security agencies, and enhances Nigeria’s capacity to anticipate and neutralise evolving threats.

Terrorism, insurgency, and transnational threats can only be confronted through regional cooperation, intelligence fusion, synergy, and sustained commitment among states.
Yesterday in N'Djamena, Republic of Chad, I joined fellow Defence Ministers and senior military chiefs from Chad, Cameroon, and Benin at the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) meeting under the Lake Chad Basin Commission, where we reviewed ongoing military operations and charted stronger strategies for regional peace and stability.
Nigeria remains steadfast in its commitment to collective security and the restoration of lasting peace across the Lake Chad Basin.

I was delighted to deliver the Convocation Lecture at this year’s Combined Convocation Ceremony of the Akwa Ibom State University, held at the Main Campus in Ikot Akpaden.
Education remains the ultimate defense against the challenges of tomorrow. Engaging with the academic community is vital to our nation's path forward, as intellectual empowerment serves as a clever deterrent to the socio-economic frustrations that often fuel insecurity. By prioritizing knowledge, we fortify the minds of our youth against criminal influence and build a foundation of stability that kinetic force alone cannot achieve.
I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, the Governing Council, and the entire Mkpat Enin community for the warm and exceptional reception.

At the Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2026 in the Republic of Türkiye, I championed a renewed global focus on the security architecture of West Africa and the Lake Chad Basin.
Beyond the panel, we secured a definitive consensus among international partners: the fight against terrorism in Nigeria is a global priority that demands more than just rhetoric.
We are moving toward a synchronized 'shared responsibility' model; ensuring that our local operations are backed by the weight of international cooperation and trusted intelligence-sharing.
We are moving beyond the era of diplomatic dialogue and into the era of collective action; forging the international alliances necessary to decisively crush borderless terrorism.
