I had a strategic meeting with officials of the U.S. Mission Nigeria in Abuja led by Mr. Murphy Opadotun, Team Lead, Office of Humanitarian Assistance, today in Abuja, during which they reaffirmed their commitment to supporting disaster management in Nigeria.

The delegation conveyed the readiness of the United States Forest Service to resume its programme of training and capacity building for personnel of our agency and State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs) across the country in the areas of Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and Incident Command System (ICS) management.

This development is a clear testament to our deepened partnership with the United States Government in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.

Earlier today, I received a nomination letter for the award of Responsive Humanitarian Leadership in 2025 by Blueprint Newspapers, one of Nigeria’s top dailies, during a visit of the Chairperson of the Editorial Board of the newspaper, Mrs. Zainab Suleiman-Okino, to our agency’s headquarters.

I thank the management of the newspaper for recognizing the efforts of our agency in safeguarding lives and property, and building national resilience.

I’m pleased to announce that the National Emergency Management Agency has received a donation of specialised communication equipment by satellite internet service provider giant, SpaceX Starlink, to support emergency response and disaster management operations in Nigeria.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, at an audience in his office following the receipt of the technology, lauded the partnership between Space X and NEMA, and assured the management of SpaceX Starlink, represented by Mr. Peter Kroetger, of efficient and effective use of the donated equipment.

The communication gadgets comprising 91 standard and mini boxes will help address some of the critical communication challenges faced by our agency in managing emergency in underserved and hard-to-reach areas across the country.

We will deploy the equipment to 50 strategic flashpoints across the country, and our command-and-control centre will be re-equipped to improve its emergency intervention operations in the country.
