NEMSAS 2026: Saving Lives Nationwide
Nigeria’s emergency healthcare system is reaching new heights! The National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS) continues to transform access to lifesaving care across the country.
From over 130,000 emergency medical transports to impacting 53,000+ pregnant women and newborns, NEMSAS is bridging critical gaps—especially in rural and hard-to-reach communities.
With innovations like SAVEMAMA, nationwide EMS coverage, and boat ambulances for riverine areas, the mission is clear: no Nigerian is left behind in emergencies.
Under the leadership of Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, Nigeria is driving a bold vision for accessible, responsive, and inclusive emergency healthcare.
Together, we are saving lives. Every second counts.

How a Coordinated EMS Response Saved a Life
An emergency call was received about a youth corps member who had been bitten by a snake in Akwa Ibom State.
Within minutes, the National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System activated its response system.
An ambulance was promptly dispatched to the scene.
On arrival, first responders assessed the situation and immediately began life-saving interventions to stabilize the patient and prevent the spread of venom.
The patient was then safely transported to the hospital for definitive care.
This is what a functional Emergency Medical Service system looks like—timely response, skilled intervention, and coordinated care.
It is a reminder that strong EMS systems are not just important…
they are the difference between life and loss.
The National Programme Manager of National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS) recently highlighted the importance of quality care in strengthening Nigeria’s emergency medical response system.
He emphasized that improving standards of care remains a top priority, ensuring timely, efficient, and life-saving interventions across the country.
He also spoke on the critical role of private sector partnership in driving innovation, sustainability, and improved service delivery. Strategic collaboration between the public and private sectors will significantly enhance operational capacity, resource mobilization, and overall system performance.
A stronger partnership today will build a more responsive and resilient EMS system for tomorrow.
