Nnewi North LG Mayor Commissions 10 Operational Tricycles for Waste Management
The Mayor of Nnewi North Local Government Area Hon Echezona Anazodo has commissioned 10 operational tricycles to boost waste management and curb indiscriminate refuse dumping across the LGA.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the Council Secretariat, is part of the administration’s drive to achieve a cleaner and healthier Nnewi. The tricycles will be deployed to residential areas, markets, and streets that are difficult for larger waste trucks to access, ensuring quicker evacuation of refuse.
While addressing waste management officers and stakeholders, the Mayor charged them to ensure rapid response, accountability, and efficient service delivery. He noted that the equipment was procured to solve the growing waste disposal challenges in Nnewi and warned against poor maintenance or misuse of the tricycles.
Key objectives of the initiative:
1. End indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages, roadsides, and unauthorized spots.
2. Improve turnaround time for waste evacuation in inner streets and densely populated areas.
3. Create jobs for tricycle operators and sanitation workers.
4. Support the state’s clean and green agenda under Governor Charles Soludo’s administration.
The Mayor also called on Ndi Nnewi to complement government efforts by bagging their waste properly, patronizing approved waste collectors, and reporting cases of indiscriminate dumping.
Residents and market leaders present at the event commended the intervention, describing it as timely for a commercial city like Nnewi.
A clean Nnewi is everybody’s business.
