Palmo studies at a boarding school in Kathmandu, far from her family.
Once a year, during the long vacation, she makes the long journey home to Dolpo — one of Nepal’s most remote regions, where her family lives.
The journey takes three long days, which is why this homecoming happens only once a year.
After months apart, returning is very special and Palmo enjoys every moment of being part of her family’s life again ❤️

Like so many children from Nepal's remote mountain villages, Palmo left home at just five years old to get a good education in Kathmandu.
In many rural areas of Nepal, schools are few and far between - and the quality of education is often limited.
That's why families make the heartbreaking decision to send their children far from home, hoping to give them the chance for a brighter future.
It's never easy to leave your family so young, but she's now growing, learning, and thriving at her boarding school and we are very grateful she has a caring family in Kathmandu.

on starting university to become a teacher!

Who would have thought this possible ten years ago?

At that time, Ranjitha and her brothers lost their parents in a tragic traffic accident. From one moment to the next, their whole world fell apart.

The authorities wanted to split them up into different homes. So in addition to losing their parents and their home, they were also threatened with separation.
Kumari, director of the WIDE Children's Home, managed to get them all into her home together.
What a blessing for the three of them! The siblings were able to grow up together as part of the WIDE family, accoording to Kumari's guiding principle: Every child deserves a family."

A decade later it is such a blessing to see her grow step by step into this new chapter of life 📚✨

Our Namaste member Sofie from Sweden recently went to Kathmandu with her mother and spent a lot of time at the Yamuna Children’s Home 😊🙏.

From Sweden, she brought a waffle iron 🧇, and the kids enjoyed waffles for the very first time — such a special treat!

They also brought yarn🧶, and Sofie’s mother, a retired sewing teacher, happily slipped back into her old habits and began teaching the children a few simple sewing projects.

Such a wonderful break from everyday life for the kids! 🌸

Im Juni starteten die Kinder aus dem Wide Children's Home in das neue Schuljahr und natürlich sollten sie dafür auch gut gerüstet sein. Die benötigten Schulsachen wurden gekauft und an die kids verteilt UND sie freuten sich, wie man zweifellos sieht.

In June the children from the Wide Children's Home started the new school year and of course they should be well equipped for it. The necessary school supplies were bought and distributed to the kids AND they were happy, as you can undoubtedly see.
