The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued the tier classifications of Publicly Listed Companies (PLCs) pursuant to SEC Memorandum Circular No. 16, Series of 2025 on the adoption of Philippine Financial Reporting Standards (PFRS) on Sustainability Disclosures.

PLCs are advised to review their corresponding tier classifications and take note of the applicable implementation timelines, reporting obligations, and sustainability-related disclosure requirements under the said issuance.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) warns the public against the reported unauthorized use of the name, registration details, and regulatory credentials of Supreme Money Lending Corp. in connection with the online lending platform "Supreme Money-Cash Loans App" and related websites.

The company has informed the Commission that it is not affiliated with, does not own, and has not authorized the operation of these digital platforms.

The public is advised to remain cautious when dealing with online lending applications and websites. Always verify if a financing or lending company is registered with the SEC before transacting. Avoid clicking suspicious links, downloading applications from unverified sources, or sharing personal information, banking details, passwords, and OTPs with unknown entities. Be careful of online lenders asking for advance fees, deposits, or other payments before loan release.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) on May 28, reflecting the parties’ shared commitment to advancing climate transparency and reinforcing cooperation on greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, reporting, and verification systems.

The LoI was signed by SEC Commissioner McJill Bryant Fernandez, MOEJ Vice-Minister for Global Environmental Affairs Kentaro DOI, and DENR Undersecretary for Finance, Information Systems, and Climate Change Analiza Rebuelta-Teh.

The collaboration forms part of the Partnership to Strengthen Transparency for co-Innovation (PaSTI), an initiative of the MOEJ launched in the Philippines in 2019. Through PaSTI, the SEC has participated in technical activities that have enhanced its understanding of international approaches to emissions measurement and verification systems, as well as the linkage between environmental reporting frameworks and corporate sustainability disclosures.

The Commission’s participation in this undertaking further aligns with its ongoing efforts to strengthen sustainability and climate-related disclosures in the Philippines, including the adoption of the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards S1 and S2 for publicly listed companies (PLCs) and large non-listed entities (LNLs) under SEC Memorandum Circular No. 16, Series of 2025.

In his remarks, Commissioner Fernandez emphasized the importance of institutional coordination in strengthening climate transparency frameworks amid increasing demand for reliable sustainability-related information.

“We acknowledge that climate transparency cannot be achieved by the financial sector alone. It requires close coordination among environmental authorities, financial sector regulators, the private sector, and international partners to ensure that reporting systems are credible, practical, and responsive to the needs of our stakeholders,” he said.

For her part, DENR Undersecretary Rebuelta-Teh underscored that “under the PaSTI Project, our target is clear: transition the private sector from voluntary to mandatory GHG reporting. By aligning DENR’s technical tools with the SEC’s revised Sustainability Reporting System, we establish a unified whole-of-government approach.”

She added that this synergy would help prepare PLCs and LNLs for global market mechanisms such as the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and Article 6 carbon markets.

The Commission also expressed its appreciation to the MOEJ and the DENR for their continued partnership and reaffirmed its support to initiatives geared toward the achievement of the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions targets.
