The Office of International and Local Linkages and the College of Public Health are pleased to invite all interested participants to a special lecture entitled "Purpose in the Unpredictable: Crafting a Public Health Career that Matters." The aim of the lecture is to share global health experiences and the lessons learned from both the shortcomings and achievements of the Korean health‑care system. It will focus on finding resilience, recognizing serendipitous opportunities, and learning to appreciate and dream beyond the expected.

The special lecture will be delivered by Dr. Jong-Su Ryu, a renowned Professor at the Graduate School of Public Health of Yonsei University, South Korea. Dr. Ryu has traveled to and lectured in more than 50 countries, focusing on global health topics and the empowerment of young professionals. He has also managed various global health consultation projects commissioned by the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Health Organization, and the Government of the Republic of Korea.

The lecture will take place on June 11, 2026, 9:30 AM at the Unilab Conference Room, located on the 6th Floor of the Henry Sy Sr. Medical Science Building at UP Manila. For those unable to attend in person, the lecture will also be livestreamed
concurrently via Zoom.

Academic and health leaders from the University of the Philippines Manila are providing technical assistance to the Provincial Government of Tarlac in developing the curricula for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Public Health programs at Tarlac Provincial College. The collaboration aims to ensure that both programs meet national standards and respond to local healthcare needs.

The Office of International and Local Linkages is pleased to announce the call for nominations for outstanding UPM fourth-year undergraduate and graduate students to participate and represent the University of the Philippines at the 2026 New Southbound Policy Elite Study Program, a short-term academic program designed to foster international collaboration and provide immersive academic and cultural learning experiences in Taiwan.

The program will run from September 2026 to January 2027 and is open to fourth year undergraduate and graduate students with academic backgrounds in biological sciences, healthcare, laboratory work, data analysis, and related fields.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝝾𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗥𝝤𝗚𝗥𝝖𝗠?
-NTD 8,000 monthly stipend

The University of the Philippines (UP) Manila and UP Los Baños engaged in a fresh round of discussions with Taiwan’s National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University aiming for the creation of a transnational postgraduate degree program.

Held on May 15, 2026, the meeting served as a preliminary talk on the development of joint Master of Science programs, including a program applying the One Health approach as a specialized track.

The three universities agreed to work on the essential details and components of the postgraduate course and to convene anew at a later date. A Memorandum of Agreement will also be instituted later on for this collaboration.

The UP Manila, through the Office of International and Local Linkages (OILL), supports the UP-Bangsa Development Initiative (UP-BDI) in harmonizing initiatives for BARMM stakeholders.

Aligned with this, the UPM OILL invites UPM faculty, students, REPS and staff to to attend the UP-BDI Caravan on 19 May 2026 from 9:00-12:00 NN at the College of Public Health Auditorium, Annex II Building, UP Manila.

The caravan aims to introduce and promote the UP-BDI’s efforts to consolidate, collaborate, and integrate UP Manila’s initiatives for the BARMM community. More than just an event, this is a platform for co-creating solutions with a real impact—staying true to the UP mission of Service to the Nation.
