PCOS is now increasingly being referred to as PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome) to better reflect the conditionโs broader hormonal, metabolic, and endocrine effects on the body.
The name change was announced at the European Congress of Endocrinology in Prague last May 12, 2026, and published in The Lancet following years of global consultation among medical experts, researchers, and patient organizations led by Professor Helena Teede of Monash University.
The updated terminology aims to improve awareness, diagnosis, and care for individuals living with the condition.
