Renowned Consultant Eye Surgeon 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐈𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐧 𝐉𝐞𝐞𝐯𝐚 visited SIOVS today on 25th May, 2026, and conducted a comprehensive 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 on 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬, 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐜𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐲 (𝐃𝐂𝐑) 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜 𝐃𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐜𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐲 (𝐃𝐂𝐑). The workshop was held at O.T. Complex, SIOVS Hyderabad, with the objective of enhancing surgical knowledge, clinical expertise, and practical understanding among ophthalmologists and postgraduate trainees at SIOVS.

This academic activity was organized under the visionary leadership and with kind support of 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝 𝐈𝐪𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐩𝐮𝐫, Executive Director, whose continued commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and specialized ophthalmic training has significantly strengthened professional education and eye care services at SIOVS.

It is worth to mention that 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐈𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐧 𝐉𝐞𝐞𝐯𝐚, is the honorary 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐕𝐒. Currently, he is serving as Clinical Governance Lead and Consultant Ophthalmologist at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, United Kingdom.

Participants of the workshop gained knowledge on modern lacrimal surgical techniques, live operative demonstrations, and evidence-based clinical practices.

The workshop was facilitated by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐡𝐚 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐢 and 𝐃𝐫. 𝐀𝐝𝐧𝐚𝐧 𝐀. 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐞𝐞𝐝, contributed to the academic discussions and interactive learning experience throughout the session.

In conclusion, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝 𝐈𝐪𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐩𝐮𝐫 expressed sincere gratitude to Prof. Jeeva for sparing his valuable time and sharing his expertise with the SIOVS community. Both professors reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing eye health through education, innovation, and service excellence.

This academic initiative reflects SIOVS ongoing dedication to promoting excellence in ophthalmic education, surgical innovation, and capacity building for eye care professionals across the region.

The delegation engaged with district-level teams working under the initiative "𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐁𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧" at District 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨 𝐌𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐝 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐧, The visit provided a valuable opportunity to review the progress of community eye health programmes, including ophthalmic community services, school eye health activities, and public health engagement. Discussions centred on strengthening partnerships, enhancing community outreach, and promoting sustainable healthcare interventions for underserved populations. The delegation acknowledged the collective efforts being made on the ground through collaboration between the Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences (SIOVS), Hyderabad, and Brien Holden Foundation (BHF). The visit was hosted by DHQ Sanghar administration led by 𝐌𝐫. 𝐀𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐚𝐛 𝐀𝐳𝐚𝐦 𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐰𝐚𝐥, the Medical Superintendent and 𝐌𝐫. 𝐉𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐥 𝐀𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐚𝐣𝐩𝐞𝐫, Deputy Director Ophthalmic Community Services, SIOVS.

The delegation reviewed the upgraded ophthalmology facilities, medical equipment, medicines, and service delivery at DHQ Sanghar. A particularly meaningful part of the visit was the interaction with Lady Health Workers (LHWs), Hospital staff & cataract surgery beneficiaries, who shared how restored vision has transformed their daily lives and livelihoods. Speaking on the occasion, participants appreciated the continued support of the Australian Government and the people of Australia through Australian Aid and The Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF) for improving eye health services in remote and underserved areas of Sindh.

Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences - SIOVS, Hyderabad, in collaboration with 𝐊𝐃𝐒𝐏 (𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦)– A Down Syndrome (Non-Profit)Organization, conducted an awareness session on 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐞 at the Lecture Hall, OT Complex of the Institute on Tuesday,19th May 2026.

The session highlights the inclusion and community support for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families. Participants were sensitized about the challenges faced by affected individuals and the vital role healthcare professionals and society can play in providing support and encouragement.

The program was well attended by faculty members, doctors, postgraduate trainees, and optometrists of SIOVS, reflecting the institute’s strong commitment towards enrichment, social responsibility and inclusive healthcare awareness.

The Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences - SIOVS, Hyderabad, successfully conducted the Spectacles Distribution Ceremony at schools in District Jamshoro under the project “𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐬; 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 (𝐎𝐒𝐚𝐚𝐓).”

This impactful initiative was made possible through the support of 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐁𝐌 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥, and implemented by SIOVS Hyderabad with a shared commitment to improving child eye health and ensuring better learning opportunities through clear vision.

The activity was carried out under the visionary leadership of 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝 𝐈𝐪𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐩𝐮𝐫, Executive Director, SIOVS Hyderabad, and the guidance of 𝐌𝐫. 𝐉𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐥 𝐀𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐚𝐣𝐩𝐞𝐫, Deputy Director, Ophthalmic Community Services, SIOVS Hyderabad.

Special appreciation to our dedicated field team and project staff whose tireless efforts made this initiative successful and helped bring the gift of clear vision to schoolchildren in Jamshoro.

𝗔 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗮 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲

On Friday 15th May 2026, the first successful 𝗔𝗚𝗩 (𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗮 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗲) implant procedure was performed at Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences.

The procedure was successfully carried out by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐬𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐪𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐧, Assistant Professor SIOVS, under the visionary leadership of 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝 𝐈𝐪𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐩𝐮𝐫, Executive Director SIOVS.

This achievement is a direct outcome of the recent glaucoma surgical workshop conducted by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐀𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐐𝐚𝐳𝐢, Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at 𝐓𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐎𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬, 𝐋𝐨𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐚, 𝐔𝐒𝐀 whose guidance, mentorship, and valuable hands-on training greatly contributed to strengthening advanced glaucoma surgical services at SIOVS.

We also express sincere gratitude to Dr. Ahad Qazi, for generously gifting surgical supplies and equipment to the Glaucoma Team, further supporting the enhancement of patient care and surgical capacity at SIOVS.

The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome address by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐟𝐪𝐚𝐭 𝐊𝐡𝐮𝐰𝐚𝐣𝐚, Ophthalmic Nurse SIOVS, 𝐌𝐬. 𝐑𝐨𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐊𝐡𝐮𝐰𝐚𝐣𝐚, Senior Nursing Instructor SIOVS highlighted the significance of the occasion and acknowledged the valuable contributions of the nursing community.

The Executive Director, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝 𝐈𝐪𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐩𝐮𝐫 in his speech appreciated the commitment and professional services of nurses in strengthening healthcare delivery at SIOVS.

The Medical Superintendent, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐡𝐳𝐚𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧 also shared his thoughts and recognized the remarkable role of nurses in patient care and hospital services.

The Nurses shared their experiences and feedback, reflecting their dedication and passion for serving humanity. Certificates were distributed among participants and volunteers by the Executive Director and Medical Superintendent in recognition of their services and participation.

The celebration concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony and group photograph.

The Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences - SIOVS, Hyderabad successfully hosted a Virtual Interactive Guest Lecture at its Lecture Hall on the topic “𝐎𝐂𝐓 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧” The session was facilitated in collaboration with 𝐌/𝐬 𝐑𝐨𝐜𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝.

The lecture was delivered live from Islamabad by distinguished guest speaker 𝐃𝐫. 𝐇𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐧, Consultant Ophthalmologist, Head of Retinal Imaging Center, and Lead of Medical Retina & Uveitis Services at Amanat Eye Hospital, Islamabad.

The session witnessed active participation from Faculty Members, Medical Officers, Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, and Orthoptists of SIOVS, reflecting strong academic engagement and clinical interest. It provided valuable insights into OCT interpretation and significantly enhanced participants’ understanding of retinal imaging in modern ophthalmic practice.

On this occasion, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝 𝐈𝐪𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐩𝐮𝐫, 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 of SIOVS Hyderabad and 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 for the Prevention and Control of Blindness in Pakistan, was invited as the Guest of Honor. He was very warmly welcomed by 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐆𝐮𝐥𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐢 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧 , the 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐫, Peoples University of Medical & Health Sciences for Women.

The symposium was held at the main auditorium (Latif Hall) of PUMHSW, Shaheed Benazirabad, on 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 .
