Sub-Committee on Accreditation of Medical & Dental Colleges and PG Qualifications Holds Key Meeting
Students Must Register with PM&DC Before Going Abroad for Medical and Dental Education
Islamabad 12th May 2026: A high-level committee chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Mohammad Ishaq Dar is currently overseeing the strengthening of the regulatory framework for medical and dental education in Pakistan.
The meeting of the Sub-Committee on Accreditation of Medical and Dental Colleges and Postgraduate (PG) Qualifications was held today to review ongoing reforms and regulatory measures to strengthen medical and dental education in Pakistan.
The sub-committees is focused on enhancing transparency, standardizing accreditation mechanisms for medical and dental colleges, and streamlining the recognition process inspections for undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in line with international standards.
During the meeting, detailed discussions was held regarding the inspection processes of medical and dental colleges' undergraduate and postgraduate.
The committee appreciated the ongoing efforts being undertaken to ensure smooth, transparent, and merit-based inspections of institutions. Members of the committee were briefed on the latest reforms, updated procedures, and mechanisms introduced to improve the quality and credibility of inspections conducted so far.
The committee emphasized that there should be no compromise on inspection standards and procedures, restating a policy of zero tolerance toward any negligence, irregularity, or lack of compliance in the accreditation process. The meeting participants stressed the importance of maintaining the highest standards of medical and dental education to safeguard the future of healthcare in Pakistan.
The meeting also discussed matters related to foreign graduates. The committee clearly resolved that all students intending to pursue medical or dental education abroad must mandatorily qualify for the MDCAT examination and obtain registration with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council before going abroad to pursue medical or dental education to avoid any future inconvenience regarding recognition, licensing, or registration.
The committee highlighted that students must verify that the foreign medical institution they intend to join is included in the list of foreign recognized institutions available with PM&DC before proceeding with admission.
Furthermore, the institution must be accredited by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) or listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
The medical qualification must comprise at least 6,200 hours of education with a minimum of 80% attendance over a period of five years.
The Committee also advised that in countries where the medium of instruction is not English, students must spend at least five months learning the local language before beginning their medical studies to ensure effective communication and academic understanding.
In addition, students will be required to pass the National Registration Examination conducted by PM&DC in order to obtain registration in Pakistan after completion of their foreign qualification.
The committee directed the students to provide complete details of their residence and contact numbers in the country of study before departure. Students were also advised to secure a multiple-entry visa valid for the duration of their studies prior to proceeding abroad.
The committee reiterated that these measures have been introduced to safeguard the academic and professional future of Pakistani medical students and to ensure that graduates meet the required national and international standards for medical practice.

PM&DC Pays Tribute to the Defenders of “Marka-e-Haq” with Kharaj-e-Tahseen
Islamabad, 10th May 2026: The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council, as the national regulatory and governing body of medical and dental professionals in Pakistan, proudly acknowledges and pays tribute to the nation and the Armed Forces on the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos.
In a statement issued by PM&DC, President Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj said that Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos demonstrated the professional excellence and outstanding military capabilities of Pakistan’s armed forces. Under the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the armed forces successfully defended the sovereignty and dignity of the motherland. He stated that Marka-e-Haq will always be remembered as a symbol of national unity and resilience.
In recognition of the exceptional services, patriotism, and dedication shown by Pak Army healthcare professionals, rescue teams, and all individuals who stood steadfast during this critical period, PM&DC pays Kharaj-e-Tahseen as a symbol of appreciation and national gratitude.
He further said that the entire nation is proud of its martyrs and ghazis, who have sacrificed for the country’s freedom. Paying tribute to the armed forces, He added that during Marka-e-Haq, the whole nation stood united like a solid wall. The success in Marka-e-Haq reflects the nation’s unity, determination, and the professionalism of the Armed Forces of Pakistan.
He also expressed solidarity on behalf of the medical fraternity and acknowledged the invaluable services rendered by the armed forces for the peace and safety of the people of Pakistan.
He further stated that the medical fraternity has always stood at the forefront during national challenges, emergencies, and humanitarian crises. He noted that during Marka-e-Haq, healthcare professionals once again demonstrated exceptional commitment, compassion, and resilience in serving the nation. According to him, the spirit of selfless service shown by doctors and healthcare workers reflects the finest values of the medical profession and strengthens the bond of unity and collective responsibility within the country.
Pakistan Medical and Dental Council also paid tribute to the leadership of the nation for their flawless and selfless efforts toward the protection of human life, the promotion of national solidarity, and the welfare of the public. The Council acknowledged their unwavering commitment, vision, and dedication in guiding the country through challenging times with responsibility and resolve.
The Council also expressed solidarity with all families affected during the difficult period and prayed for peace, stability, and prosperity for Pakistan.
