PPD was established in the year 2005 to formulate the structure of Punjab Criminal Prosecution Service.

Public Prosecution Department is a governing body, which is responsible for administration, recruitment, Posting Transfers of Prosecutors.

Mr. Salman Ghani, Secretary, Public Prosecution Department, Government of the Punjab, held an online meeting with Dr. Yang Xinglong, Deputy Dean of the School of International Education, Southwest University of Political Science and Law. Mr. Asmat Ullah Khan, Director (Appeals), Public Prosecution Department, also attended the meeting. The discussion focused on matters of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on institutional cooperation in the areas of criminal prosecution, prosecutorial training, comparative legal studies, legal research, exchange of expertise, and capacity building of public prosecutors. Both sides also explored avenues for strengthening collaboration between the Public Prosecution Department and the Southwest University of Political Science and Law.

Public Prosecution Department has deputed Public Prosecutors to Conduct Prosecutorial Work Under Section 23 of the Punjab Protection of Ownership of Immovable Property Ordinance, 2025 in the Property Tribunals established in all districts of the Punjab by Board of Revenue.

Secretary Public Prosecution Department chaired a meeting regarding review of automation and digitalization of prosecutorial functions. The meeting was attended by Mr. Abdul Rauf, AS Prosecution, Mr. Muhammad Azam, AS (Admin), Mr. Muhammad Altaf Ishaq , Additional Prosecutor General, Mr. Ahsan Raza, Mr. Abdul Qudoos, Mr. Saif-ur-Rehman, Mr. Umar Farooq (Assistant District Public Prosecutors).

The Secretary Prosecution emphasized for:
a) Need for enhanced digitalization and automation in the prosecutorial work to reduce human interface
b) Transparency in the stored data and avenues for public access
c) Facilitation of the end consumers
d) Exploring avenues for integration of Artificial Intelligence System in the existing digital tools to enhance their functionality and expand their access.

Mr. Salman Ghani, Secretary Public Prosecution Department held a review meeting with his team and instructed that all the possible measures should be implemented for speedy, transparent and judicious prosecution of the cases pending before trials and High Courts. He also emphasized for an open-door office policy for both the employees of the prosecution department as well as general public so their grievances are heard and dealt with.

Mr. Salman Ghani an officer of Pakistan Administrative Service (BS-20) has assumed the charge of Secretary Public Prosecution Department. Mr. Ghani has previously served on key assignments including Special Secretary in Home, Health and Finance Departments – guiding these departments to ensure effective service delivery.

Similarly, he has also served as Deputy Commissioner in Faisalabad and Kasur.

Mr. Ghani is motivated to ensure greater effectiveness in various prosecutorial services as well as ensuring transparency and professionalism in the disposal of official assignments under Rules of Business 1973.
