More than $5.4 million has been lost to Government Officials Impersonation Scams (GOIS) since April 2026.ย ๐ฑ
Scammers, impersonating Government officials, have been accusing victims of being involved in criminal activities.
They have asked victims to make cash transfers via ATMs to โsafety accountsโ for investigation purposes.
Remember!

On 22 May 2026, Maybank Singapore as part of the Maybank Silver Buddies @ South East programme, hosted a Scam Awareness Talk at Maybank Tower, 2 Battery Road, welcoming 40 seniors from the Hougang neighbourhood. The event was organised through a collaborative effort between Maybank Singapore, Fei Yue Active Ageing Centre (Hougang), South East CDC, Woodleigh NPC, and Project PRAISE Advocates. Many thanks to for providing the venue and refreshments for the session.
The session proved to be both meaningful and enriching for the seniors in attendance. Speakers from PRAISE Advocates and Woodleigh NPC led the talk in an engaging and interactive manner, fostering lively discussions with the audience. Many seniors took the opportunity to share their personal experiences, while the team on hand addressed questions as they arose throughout the session. Through their outreach efforts, the Advocates played a key role in ensuring that SPF advisories and crime prevention messages reached the seniors effectively.
Participants left with a heightened awareness of the various scam types and the steps they can take to safeguard themselves, with many expressing their desire to pass on what they had learnt to their family members and friends.

Monthly Scam Bulletin #5 (15 May 2026)
โHello, remember me?โ If you have heard this from a call, be wary and exercise caution!๐จ
Scammers are posing as friends to trick you into transferring money urgently.
In some instances, after money transfer has been made, some victims have even received a follow up call from a scammer posing as a police officer, alleging that the earlier transfer was linked to criminal activities.
Victims would be asked to transfer more money to a โsafety accountโ to support investigations.
How you can protect yourself:
โผ๏ธAlways verify who you are speaking to and never transfer money to unknown persons.
โ ๏ธGovernment officials, including the Police, will never ask you to transfer money or hand over valuables over a phone call.
Unsure if itโs a scam? Call and check with the 24/7 ScamShield Helpline at 1799ย โ๏ธ
