What if an old building could find a whole new purpose? ποΈ
This semester, students from National University of Singapore (NUS) Master of Arts in Architectural Conservation (MAArC) got to do exactly that. They took on Jurong Town Hall as a live design project, exploring how this beloved National Monument π
could be thoughtfully adapted for the future.
JTC's Urban Planning & Architectural Design team opened up archived drawings, historical records, and planning documents to support the students, and joined their reviews to offer practical, real-world feedback on their ideas.
One special moment was the final review, which was held inside Jurong Town Hall itself β a first for the programme π. The project also drew interest from Kyoto Arts & Crafts University and Southeast University (Nanjing), who visited as part of their own study tours on sustainable urban development.
There's something special about seeing fresh perspectives brought to spaces like these and we look forward to even more collaborations with universities and students.
