47 lawmakers aligned with the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) boycotted Monday’s parliamentary sitting during which the cabinet tabled proposed amendments to the 2018 Revitalised Peace Agreement.
SSOA, a coalition of several parties to the peace deal, is currently split into factions aligned with former vice president Josephine Lagu and Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi, who is widely seen as an ally of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
Bol Joseph Agau, a lawmaker and secretary general of the opposition National Democratic Movement (NDM) led by Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, told Radio Tamazuj that the amendment process was unilateral and unconstitutional.

Mahjoub Biel appointment is illegal!
Wed/5/06/ 2026.
By Cle. Lïno Majier D'Anyuat Chairperson for Youth League Executive Committee
President kiir appointed Hon. Mahjoub Biel Turuk as the deputy minister of public service and Human resource development, despite his dismissal from the party by National leadership council NLC alongside other 4 disgruntled members.
These appointments of so-called Mahjoub and others in unity government perpetually, isn't only a disrespect to internal disciplinary processes of NDM but also a flagrant Violation of the R-ARCSS which mandates that positions shall be allocated to the parties and coalitions that are signatories to the agreement. When an individual is dismissed from their party, they lose an institutional mandate to holds a seat allocated to that party. Therefore, the recurring act of appointing renegades in the name of the parties is deliberate subversion of peace process which goes against the spirit of inclusivity and collegial Consultation among the parties to the agreement.
As NDM we firmly condemn the political interference of SPLM Tut-IG and H.E Hussein Abdelbagi Akol vice president for services cluster on our party internal matters, the RJMEC, IGAD and African Union must safeguard the agreement from spoilers and force the parties to strictly adhere to the letter and spirit of the R-ARCSS. Lets not allow the R-ARCSS to be eroded by the dismissed individuals who don't represent the constituents they claim to serve.

The amendment of the agreement after being approved by the council of ministers can't immediately be submitted to the parliament.
The procedural way is to first pass through RJMEC after deliberating on it and pass then it go to the National Legislative Assembly NLA.
The government must be very careful on this issue, deleting articles 8.2, 8.3 and 8.4 is a definite coup against R-ARCSS and it may backfire the unity government especially the legitimacy of the RTGONU government.
