Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors.

To the Butts County Community,

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Superintendent, Brent Lowe. Brent joined our community in 2022, but he quickly became part of our family. He led our District with grace, humor, and unwavering dedication, leaving all who knew him with the confidence that they had both a trusted leader and a dear friend on whom they could rely.

Mr. Lowe was a big presence with a big heart, who always put kids first in the work that he did. He dedicated his recent years to the service of our children, and for that, the Butts County Schools community and family will be forever grateful.

We are saddened by this great loss, but we are confident that what he helped to build here in Butts County will endure. We ask for your thoughts and prayers for his wife, Brandi, his three children, his family, and all of those who loved him.

On behalf of the Butts County Board of Education, we extend our deepest condolences to all those mourning this loss.

Sincerely,

Kelly Strickland-King
Chair, Butts County Board of Education

Important Update for the 2026โ€“2027 School Year

The Lamar County School System has conducted multiple reviews of student arrival times this past school year, and based on that data, we will be making a small adjustment to morning intake times beginning in the 2026โ€“2027 school year.

New Student Drop-Off / Doors Open Times:

Middle & High Schools: 6:50 a.m. (previously 6:40 a.m.)
Primary & Elementary Schools: 7:15 a.m. (previously 7:00 a.m.)

Bus Routes:
Morning bus pick-up times will be shifted by 10โ€“15 minutes later than this school year.

Why the change?
Increases adult supervision during early arrival times
Allows students to get 10โ€“15 more minutes of rest each night
Improves overall safety and structure at the start of the school day

This is a minor adjustment, but we wanted to share early so families have time over the summer to plan accordingly.

Thank you for your continued support of the Lamar County School System. We hope you have a great summer.
