Desmond Higgs
Desmond Higgs was Founder and National Co-ordinator of The Ministries of Ten Thousand Men, arranging national days of prayer and fasting for "the healing of the land" of Australia. He was Chairman of the Executive Committee which organised theNational Gathering bringing over 50,000 Christians to Canberra to surround the new Federal Parliament for a 24 hour prayer vigil during the opening by the Queen in 1988. He has served on the Board of Teen Challenge, Victoria; the National Alliance of Christian Leaders; Saltshakers; the Melbourne Prayer Breakfast Committee, and with Prison Fellowship. Ron Baker’s story is a truly remarkable one, and at the same time an amazing account of salvation by God’s hand. Ron’s life story is that of just a normal person, who, in trying to contend with a traumatic childhood, tried to mask the pain. This led to alcoholism, prescription drug abuse, gambling, witchcraft, and more. How he came in contact with Christianity and redemption was an amazing journey. Just One In the Crowd tells the inspiring story of how just one day at a packed Billy Graham crusade not only radically changed one man’s life forever, but also led to him touching the lives of thousands of others over the decades. Holiness is first of all a state of being holy in the same way that good health is a state of being physically well or healthy. In consequence of being well you live a life style which is different from that lived by a sick person. So, when we are cleansed of our depravity, or made holy, we live a life style of holiness. Or, to use another metaphor, when we are healed of our spiritual malady we live a spiritually healthy life style. So holiness is not only a state of being it is also our mode of conduct consistent with and resulting from our state of spiritual health. Holiness is not only a state of spiritual health it is also a description of the way we live which we call our conduct or our walk as described in 1 John 1:7. “But if we [really] are living and walking in the Light, as He [Himself] is in the Light, we have [true, unbroken] fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses (removes) us from all sin and guilt [keeps us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations.”
When, in an instant, we are healed by the Holy Spirit of our malady of depravity we are suddenly different from the spiritually sick person we used to be. This is described by John Baptist like this in Matt 3:11, ‘Jesus will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire ...’ This is the process by which we are made holy or sanctified. It is an instantaneous event in the same way that being born again is instantaneous. HOLINESS! that difficult subject we are tested by this word in our walk with the Lord many times.
