Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock toured the Adult & Teen Challenge of Texas Magnolia Campus, a faith-based recovery nonprofit that received a CORE grant from the Opioid Abatement Fund Council to support services for individuals facing opioid use disorder. The organization provides a 12-month residential program that guides participants through recovery curriculum and concludes with community reentry support designed to promote lasting recovery.

Juneteenth marks the day the last enslaved people in Texas learned they were free: June 19, 1865. Now a federal holiday — thanks in large part to Ms. Opal Lee of Fort Worth, known as “the grandmother of Juneteenth” — it is a day to honor freedom, remember our history honestly, and recommit to America’s founding promise of liberty and justice for all.
