Congratulations to Critical Combat on the tremendous success of Critical Combat 4 at Maimonides Park in Coney Island. I was proud to sponsor and support an event that showcased the very best of Brooklyn while bringing together athletes, families, community leaders, and sports fans for an unforgettable evening. It was especially rewarding to see more than 1,000 people come together in Coney Island, including many residents from throughout the 46th Assembly District, to enjoy a night of competition, entertainment, and community. Events like these not only provide opportunities for athletes to shine, but also highlight Coney Island as a destination and bring positive energy and economic activity to our neighborhood. Thank you to Gabriel Blinder and the entire Critical Combat team for their vision and dedication in organizing this historic event, as well as The Voices of Brooklyn, Troy Ave, and the many athletes, entertainers, and notable guests who helped make the evening such a success. Critical Combat 4 demonstrated the power of sports to unite people from all backgrounds and showcased why Coney Island remains one of Brooklyn’s greatest gathering places. I look forward to seeing this event continue to grow and bring even more visitors, opportunities, and excitement to our community in the years ahead.

** NYPD DETECTIVE SHOT IN BROOKLYN**

At approximately 8:52 am today, Detective Matthew Gale of the NYPD Emergency Service Unit was injured when a suspect armed with a gun fired at the police inside a building on Kosciuszko Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant. As per NYPD Commissioner Tisch, Det. Gale suffered a gunshot wound to his leg and was rushed to Kings County Hospital and is currently in stable condition. The incident started at approximately 6 am when an armed suspect locked himself in an apartment. Commissioner Tisch added that the suspect refused multiple orders to drop his weapon and was injured in an exchange of gunfire and removed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. I am sad at the loss of life but I am profoundly grateful that our NYPD hero appears to be on his way to a speedy recovery. There is no doubt that his actions and the actions of all the police at the scene saved the lives of other residents in the building. Please remember the heroes of the NYPD and all our law enforcement agencies that respond to dangerous situations to protect all New Yorkers. Thank you Kings County Hospital and God bless and protect the NYPD.

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, remembering the moment in 1865 when the last group of enslaved people in Galveston, TX were informed of their freedom, 2 1/2 years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation by President Lincoln. Today is a celebration and a reminder that we must continue the struggle for freedom and equality for all Americans in every corner of our Nation. We must remain united and build a better future for our children.
