COMING SOON! Join Heritage ambassador 2023 Polish Brooklyn-based visual artist Asia Sztencel for an interactive workshop exploring memory, storytelling and community connection through participatory art making.
Asia's conceptual practice and traditional craft offers a personal exploration within the larger narrative of the immigration experience, highlighting landscape as a narrative, dissecting the feelings of exile, recall, and longing.
How do landscapes stay with us across time, migration, and personal change? How can art help preserve memory and create connection between people and communities?
Drawing from her ongoing project You Can Carry Your Landscape With You, developed through collaborations with immigrant and older adult communities in Brooklyn, Asia will discuss how art can create spaces for reflection, exchange, and collective remembering.
Participants will engage in a sensory-based creative exercise using clay, ink, and memory as starting points for artistic exploration inspired by personal landscapes, recollections, and lived experiences.
The session will include conversation, reflection, and hands-on participation.
No previous art experience is required.
All materials will be provided.

NEXT WEEK! On the evening of June 22, artist Nikki Kramer will be holding a writing prompt forum. The theme of this event will be Embodiment and Transcendence. In this space, there will be a provided sequence of writing prompts; you may answer these prompts in whichever form of writing you desire: a poem, a fictional story, a play, a journal entry, etc. You will have an allocated amount of time to answer the prompts, then we will share and discuss.
You are not obligated to share, but this will be a safe and supported space where your writing will not be judged. If you have a notebook or paper and a writing utensil, please bring these items with you, if not, we will have supplies provided.
