The more than 350 miles of trails in the Forest Preserves of Cook County offer a fun and healthy outdoor adventure whether you’re on a bike, riding a horse, in running shoes or taking the dog for a walk.
With so many ways to use the trails, we have to look out for each other to keep our time out in nature enjoyable and to be safe. Please remember to share the trails with everyone and follow these simple rules.
• Stay to the right. Ride or walk on the right side of the trail and stay single file whenever possible.
• Pass safely. Give an audible warning and slow down before passing others. Pass in single file only.
• Yield to other trail users. Bicycle riders must yield to other types of trail users.
• Keep your dog on-leash. Dogs must be on-leash, controlled by their owner and on the right side of the trail.
• Travel at a safe speed. Bicycle and e-bike riders must travel at speeds under 15 miles per hour.

What an honor to visit the Obama Presidential Center with some of my staff today, and a treat to return to Hyde Park and see the changes in the neighborhood since college and graduate school. Beautiful weather and an inspiring field trip!

It was an honor to participate in River Forest’s Pride Flag raising and Pride Walk on June 1. Thank you to the Village Council for approving the Flag Raising and that the LGBTQ+ community is welcome in River Forest.

On June 9th my staff will be at the Des Plaines Public Library to help 9th District constituents. If you have questions regarding County or Forest Preserve issues, stop by my table in the lobby!

Thank you to Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison and his staff for organizing this year's Pride Flag Raising ceremony at Daley Plaza today, and thank you to Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson for speaking up in support of LGBTQ+ rights. The Pride Flag is a reminder of the violence and harassment that the LGBTQ community has endured at the hands of government, and it's a promise that where the Pride flag flies, the LGBTQ+ community can live free from harassment and violence.

Happy Pride Month! I was honored to participate in the Pride in the Preserves event at the Forest Preserve District of Cook County Trailside Museum in River Forest on Sunday. The event launched the “raised flags” exhibit which highlights the contributions of LGBTQ2S+ conservation leaders whose work has shaped and inspired the conservation movement. The exhibit is open all month!

Thank you to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago Board for honoring me as their 2026 Pride Month Honoree. It was an honor to participate in the MWRD's Pride Flag raising today, and to be a panelist for a discussion about the intersection of environmental sustainability and LGBTQ+ rights. Both Cook County and the MWRD have more to do to address the needs of people who are at risk in climate emergencies and to upgrade aging infrastructure in the face of those climate emergencies.

Help provide household essentials for clients at Elk Grove and Wheeling Township food pantries, and enjoy the first outdoor concert of Arlington Heights' Sounds of Summer concert series. Bring your donations to the June 4 concert to Fill the Truck, and be entertained by Mayor Jim Tinaglia's own band, Exit 147!
