Health care is not a luxury to be profited off of, but a human right. Private equity is exploiting the health care system for profit when everyday people are just trying to get the care they need. Using our antitrust powers for oversight is the first step in stopping a private equity takeover in health care. We loved partnering with ward33chicago and repdeliaramirez for a Senior Resource Fair at Darul Amaan! My team and I had a wonderful time meeting seniors and informing them about all of the resources our state can provide for them. We are grateful to have this continuous intergovernmental collaboration to ensure we can meet the needs of our senior constituents.

I was so honored to keynote the Parent Mentors Ladders Convening last week. Having this many talented, committed parent mentors in our district is an incredible gift to our students and schools, and I'm grateful we were able to protect their funding this year. These parents never stop inspiring me. Thank you for being the backbone of our schools.

Governing means celebrating progress while telling the truth about the work that remains.
We were honest when this budget passed, and weāre just as honest today. This budget helped lessen the harm of devastating federal cuts and marked an important first step toward fixing Illinoisās broken tax system. But it was never enough to meet the full scale of what our communities are facing.
As families across Illinois continue to feel the impacts of cuts to food assistance, health care, education, and other essential services, weāll keep fighting for revenue that doesnāt come off the backs of working people and for the investments our communities need to thrive.
The work continues.

I spent the last two days in Detroit with organizers, advocates, researchers, elected officials, and movement leaders from across the country at the Fair Tax Summit. I was also happy to get face to face time with the State Innovation Exchangeās Tax Justice Initiative Cohort.
We came together because communities everywhere are asking the same question. How do we make sure our states have the resources to keep our people fed, housed, healthy, educated, and cared for without asking everyday people to carry the burden?
Illinois isnāt alone in this fight. States across the country are advancing bold revenue ideas, challenging austerity, and proving that another path is possible. This year, Illinois became the fourth state to pass a digital ad tax, and Iām proud of the work so many legislators, advocates, organizers, and partners did together to help make that happen. Itās a reminder that when we organize, build coalition, and refuse to accept false choices, we can win.
I also left with even more clarity. The challenges facing our communities are growing faster than our current revenue system can keep up. Families are losing food assistance. Health care is under attack. Schools are facing cuts. The need is urgent, and our response has to match it.
Iām heading home with new ideas, stronger partnerships, and even more determination to keep building revenue that doesnāt come off the backs of working people.
Back in Illinois. Back to work.

A nationwide bipartisan coalition agrees, states are on the front lines of protecting Americans from emerging AI harms. Read our letter here: https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/5925506-state-lawmakers-reject-ai-preemption/
