District 2 supported the Elm Thicket / Northpark community in commemorating the historic Hillard Golf Course along Mabel Avenue. The golf course served as an important recreational facility for African Americans in Dallas and for many who visited Dallas. Notable golfers, such as V.W. Ross and Ike Oliver, enjoyed utilizing the course during its operations. The course would also go on to host tournaments, community events, and Juneteenth celebrations. I provided a special recognition in honor of the history and community associated with this golf course.

The responders who assisted those impacted by the apartment explosion in Oak Cliff were recognized during Council this last week, in addition to a local hero who saved a girl from the tragic incident, Rodney Brown. These individuals worked tirelessly to support families thrown into an anxious and stressful situation. The District 2 office mourns those who were lost, and sincerely appreciates those who assisted.

Today, District 2 celebrated Juneteenth by raising the Juneteenth flag with Dallas leadership, residents, and staff. Juneteenth commemorates the marking of the end of slavery in the United States in 1865. For many, this day is a reflection of the sacrifices, legacy, and resilience of the African American community. We are grateful to commemorate this federal holiday and what freedom means for everyone.

I walked the Harry Stone Park to see the updates that will improve everyone's experience when visiting. Changes include removal of plywood and replacement of the climbing section, abating ant piles, adding trash cans near the baseball dugout, and working to install dog waste stations on the trail. Thanks so much to Dallas Parks for their diligent work in making the park a great experience for our neighbors in Far East Dallas!

This last weekend was expressive in the streets of Downtown Dallas. The Sunset Pride Parade returned to its roots with the first route travelled by the original organizers of this parade back in 1972. I enjoyed participating in this parade with my daughter Ava, witnessing the love and support that our City shows for each other, even on rainy days.

Last week, District 2 met with and the Deep Ellum Community on final design discussions regarding the Deep Ellum Mobility Hub! The purpose of this meeting was to receive final feedback from the Deep Ellum community that would feature their input and enhance this vibrant neighborhood. The mobility hub would include, but is not limited to, micromobility (such as public scooters and bike parking), mural walls, seating area, native landscaping, and crossing enhancements. We are excited for this hub in our community, which is slated for completion in November 2027.
