A Heartfelt Thank You From Marsha Jones

To every single person who ever stepped foot inside The Afiya Center…
To everyone who ever reposted a message, attended an event, showed up for a rally, lifted up our name, believed in our mission, or simply thought about us —

Thank you.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

The Afiya Center was built from love — your love, your labor, your brilliance, your courage. It was built by community, sustained by community, and transformed into a movement because you stood with us. TAC was never just an organization; it was a homeplace, a sanctuary, a force rooted in Black women’s power and truth.

And I want to say this plainly because you deserve clarity:
I, Marsha Jones, would never walk away from the community I love and the people I serve.
And I didn’t.

I have lived long enough, led long enough, and prayed long enough to know that all good things do come to an end — and that when one door closes, another one opens, wider and more aligned with the moment we are called to meet.

That new door is Women’s Health & Evolutionary Wellness.

This is not a continuation of TAC. It is a rebirth.
A womanist-rooted organization grounded in healing, culture, community power, and collective liberation.

While reproductive justice is still in our bones, womanism is now our ground — a foundation deep enough and wide enough to hold our entire community:
Black women and girls, Black men and boys, Black LGBTQ+ kin, our elders, our youth, and every person shaped by the South we call home.

I will be supporting this amazing new organization...This Girl is still retiring!!!
My role is to support the transition into new leadership — folx who helped grow TAC from a vision into a movement and who will carry W.H.E.W. into the next era with integrity, courage, and love.

To everyone who ever touched TAC in any way — you helped build something that will live forever in the hearts of those it touched. And now, you are part of the foundation of what comes next.

Welcome to the next chapter of our healing and our power.
Welcome to a movement grounded in womanism, rooted in community, and rising into a future we will build together.

For 18 years, The Afiya Center has been honored to serve, protect, and uplift Black womxn and girls. Today, we share the difficult news that our organization will permanently close.

To everyone who walked this journey with us, thank you. Your partnership, your trust, and your commitment created a legacy that will endure far beyond our doors. This wasn't an easy decision. Our hearts are full of gratitude for every person who believed in this work, our funders, partners, staff, volunteers, and the community members who trusted us with their stories and their lives.
While this chapter ends, the legacy we built together lives on in every life touched, every movement strengthened, and every voice amplified.

The Afiya Center To our community, funding partners, and supporters: After careful evaluation and extensive deliberation, the Board of Directors of The Afiya Center has made the difficult decision to permanently dissolve the organization. The Afiya Center will cease all operations.
