Everyone: thank you.
Tonight's results aren't what I hoped for, but I'm extremely proud of the campaign that we ran together. Whether you gave money, volunteered, or just voted, you helped lead an important conversation about the role state appellate courts play in our democracy and what they should look like moving forward. Our campaign had serious support all over between Brenham and Galveston, and I will always be proud and grateful for that.
Earlier this evening, I called William Demond and congratulated him on securing the Democratic nomination for Place 7 on the 14th Court of Appeals. I have gained a lot of respect for William over the course of this campaign, and I know he will provide a thoughtful and unique perspective to the Court once elected. I wish him the best of luck.
As for me, I suspect I'll continue doing what I do best - advocating for my clients as their Texas appellate attorney. True justice doesn't come from good judges alone, after all.
Thank you again, everyone, for carrying me on this journey. All of you will always hold a special place in my heart.
Until next time,
Michael

Dissents are important. Here's Justice Kagan today, dissenting and explaining what the Supreme Court did with the Voting Rights Act.

I woke up and I'm very likely in a runoff for the Democratic nomination! I'm so, so grateful to everyone who has helped us get this far. Runoff's May 26. Stay tuned for more.

I'm pretty sure I've talked about defending our rights during this campaign (at all parts of government), including but especially voting, but tonight the President called voting a mere "privilege."
Dear reader, the US Constitution calls it "the right to vote."
Continue exercising that right. Early voting for three more days - through Friday. Primary election day next Tuesday, March 3.
