Today marks 10 years since the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida, where 49 people were murdered and 53 others were injured in one of the deadliest acts of violence targeting LGBTQ+ people in U.S. history.
The Pulse tragedy was a devastating reminder that hatred and violence continue to threaten LGBTQ+ people, and that visibility, equality, and progress cannot be taken for granted. Every person deserves to live openly, authentically, and safely.
Today, the City of West Hollywood remembers the 49 lives lost, honors the survivors, and stands with the families and communities forever changed by this tragedy. As we mark this solemn anniversary, we reaffirm our commitment to building a world free from hate, discrimination, and violence.
We will never forget.
