Candidate Who Cares spotlight: It's Senator Leroy Comrie, a longtime home care champion!

When we sounded the alarms about the rushed CDPAP transition, Comrie listened and led the charge to help us win a delay. When CDPAP began to crumble—as we had warned—Comrie co-introduced the Home Care Transparency Act to demand transparency and ensure $11B of our Medicaid dollars go directly towards care.

Vote to re-elect Comrey between now and June 23, because we need representatives who LISTEN to people with disabilities, older adults, and home care workers!

Jessica González-Rojas has been a champion for home care workers and one of our strongest allies for years. We are proud to endorse her.

Election Day is on June 23 – vote JGR for State Senate to elect someone who will always stand on the side of care, not billionaires!

We so deeply appreciate Jessica González-Rojas, who has been a champion for home care workers and one of our most fierce allies for years.

She was one of our most vocal leaders in the fight for Fair Pay for Home Care Workers. When the handover of the CDPAP program to private equity forced over 100,000 home care workers to lose their jobs, she led the charge for accountability as a lead sponsor of the Home Care Transparency Act.

We are proud to endorse her.

If we were listened to from the beginning by the Governor Kathy Hochul administration, this lawsuit wouldn’t be happening.

Now her actions have made our Medicaid and home care funding vulnerable to a right-wing attack.

The federal government has promised to cut Medicaid to the bone. We will not let the feds use the Governor’s mistakes to destroy a program that keeps millions of New Yorkers alive and in their homes.

Well-said statement by our Candidate Who Cares, Dan Livingston, running for Assembly in AD-123 (Broome County)! (People for Livingston)

We need an ally like him in Albany! He understands firsthand the importance of care work, and that care workers deserve way better than what our for-profit home care system provides.

While clearly this was not the statement we hoped to make, there is much reason for hope! Join us for a campaign debrief and new member orientation next Thursday, June 18. RSVP at https://actionnetwork.org/events/caring-majority-orientation-and-nys-budget-session-debrief/).

We brought in new members and leaders from all over the state, recruited new legislative champions, and we made major inroads on key legislative campaigns and organizational goals which will pave the way for victory next year.

We got the Home Care Savings & Reinvestment Act—to eliminate private insurance from New York’s home care system and reinvest the savings directly into care–passed through the Senate Health Committee. The Home Care Transparency Act, which will provide transparency on the $11 billion Medicaid dollars handed to PPL and hold the private equity-backed corporation accountable for its failures, has almost 60 co-sponsors. And critically, we have built powerful relationships with other movements fighting for a more caring New York, including the Tax the Rich, New York For All, and New York Health Act campaigns.

Caring Majority truly showed up, fought hard, and showed what true care in action looks like.

[ALT TEXT: Legislative session is over and Albany failed to support New York’s home care workers and consumers. State lawmakers did not pass the Home Care Transparency Act to establish basic oversight of PPL’s disastrous management of the $11 billion CDPAP program. They failed to advance the Home Care Savings and Reinvestment Act to eliminate the insurance middlemen who pocket billions while the care crisis worsens. They refused to pass the Fair Pay for Home Care Act to raise wages and address a workforce shortage that leaves older and disabled New Yorkers without the care they need. And they refused to act on the looming Essential Plan cliff, abandoning an estimated 450,000 New Yorkers, many of them immigrants, who will lose their health coverage this summer due to federal cuts.

Instead, Albany allowed corporations and private equity firms to continue profiting from billions in public Medicaid dollars meant for care, without oversight or accountability

At a moment when the Trump administration is actively dismantling the safety net that millions of New Yorkers depend on, our state's leaders failed to fight back. New York leaders had the solutions. They had the legislation. They had the testimony of real New Yorkers whose lives depend on home care. Yet leadership chose to look the other way. Every New York family will one day rely on home care. The New York Caring Majority will not stop fighting until this state delivers care, not corruption, to the workers and consumers who cannot afford to wait.]

Thank you to these Candidates Who Care who joined us in front of PPL's NYC headquarters to demand oversight for the CDPAP home care program, which has been collapsing under private equity control.

At a time when federal cuts threaten to gut Medicaid, we need representatives who recognize that it’s time to invest in Care Not Corruption!

Vote for them in the Democratic Primary on June 23!

This morning, we rallied at PPL’s NYC HQ with some of our amazing Candidates Who Care to demand oversight of the CDPAP program, which has been collapsing under control of the private equity-backed corporation.

New York faces one of the worst home care shortages in the nation Yet instead of investing in care, New York State is handing billions to insurance companies and private equity firms who extract profits while workers accept poverty wages and consumers lose access to quality care.

At a time when federal cuts threaten to gut Medicaid, we need candidates who recognize that it’s time to invest in Care Not Corruption.
