Yesterday (June 17), Elite Learners hosted an Anti-Gun Violence Rally in Prospect Lefferts Gardens following the tragic death of Emanuel “Manny” Spencer, whose life was taken after a shooting incident on Lincoln Road.

We heard from our CEO, Camara Jackson, community members, advocates, loved ones, as well as some of our fellow nyc_cms leaders, who all delivered powerful words about the impact of gun violence, as well as solutions towards a brighter future.

As a city, we are celebrating the triumph of the NY Knicks championship win, but as a community, we still need to take a stand. Enough is enough.

Today was a big step in the healing process for our community. 🧡

Elite Learners hosted a Community Resource Fair at 101 Lincoln Road, which is the location of a recent shooting incident that took the life of neighbor Emanuel “Manny” Spencer. In addition to offering our resources and mental health services, we were also joined by NDA Program DYCD-PAIHS and KAVI | Kings Against Violence Initiative who helped us in supporting the community.

We are prioritizing the needs of our PLG community as they grieve the loss of a beloved resident.

As we prepare for a large city-wide celebration over the Knicks championship win, it’s essential that we support our own while they navigate a tragedy.

When a tragedy hits our community, it impacts the whole neighborhood.

This week, Elite Learners will be honoring the life of Emanuel “Manny” Spencer, who lost his life to gun violence over the weekend following the Knicks championship win. As our city enters a celebratory time, we are dedicated to supporting a grieving family and our Prospect Lefferts Gardens community.

Tomorrow (June 16), our organization will be hosting a Community Resource Fair at 101 Lincoln Road from 10 AM - 4 PM that will feature some of our partners, mental health services via our mobile unit, as well as other healing resources.

To follow on Wednesday (June 17), we will be uplifting community leaders and residents’ voices alongside our CMS team at our Anti-Gun Violence rally from 5-7 PM.

It’s time to take a stand and help put an end to the violence in our neighborhoods. We hope you will join us in the fight. 🧡

This past Saturday, June 13, 2026, our community experienced a devastating act of gun violence that took the life of a member of our PLG community.

Emanuel “Manny” Spencer was a father of four, a neighbor, and a community resident deeply connected to the fabric of Prospect Lefferts Gardens.

While New Yorkers across the city celebrated the Knicks championship win on Saturday, a family in our borough is now grieving an unimaginable loss.

For almost 300 days prior to this tragedy, our community did not experience a shooting in the PLG area, which highlights the progress made possible through daily dedication, violence interruption, relationship-building and community trust. That progress is still real -!: this loss only deepens our responsibility to protect it.

Elite Learners will be present in the community this week with immediate support and spaces for healing. We are moving from grief into support and we invite you all to stand with us.

Gun violence has no place on our streets, in our celebrations, or anywhere in our future. If you are in need of support or want to get involved, please send us a message.

The school year is almost over and the celebrations are just getting started 🎉

Elite Learners had a blast hosting a special Brunch and Skate party for students of in Bushwick, Brooklyn, bringing tons of laughs, connections and killer dance moves 🪩 After an energized brunch, where we saw some killer dance moves, students burnt some more energy off with a roller skating party. 🛼It was so rewarding to watch the kids build some new skills!

With summer just around the corner, we are gearing up to celebrate even more students for their hard work in the school year. We are honored to be able to bring these new opportunities and experiences to youth and members of the community, and look forward to making more of an impact.

The best part of summertime is getting the community together outside! ☀️

Elite Learners joined other organizations at the Health Fair, and we brought tons of fun, connections, sweet treats and laughs! Children, parents and community members had a blast with our bouncy houses, our sports games, airbrush tattoo art, cotton candy, snow cones and a great DJ set. 🎵

There’s nothing we love more than serving our community with positive vibes, safe spaces and special moments that will be remembered forever. Check out some highlights from this past weekend’s event!

Getting the youth outside in fresh air and working together can really bring out the best in them. 🙌

The YMI Field Day hosted by this past gave the students in our program a chance to step away from their usual routines and schoolwork. Kids came together to spend time competing while building stronger connections with their peers and mentors.

In addition to winning nearly every game which included tug-of-war, an 8-man crawl, a basketball tournament and more, the Elite Learners’ team brought tons of energy, laughs and, of course, teamwork. 🏀

Between obstacle courses full of laughs and being recognized with an award for our partnership efforts, our end-of-the-year carnival was a beautiful day of celebration and joy for everyone. 🎉
