Memorial Day should never become so routine that we forget why it exists.

Today is not simply about a long weekend or the unofficial start of summer. It is about the absence left behind — the empty seats at dinner tables, the families forever changed, and the generations of Americans who carried the burden of service knowing they might never come home.

Freedom has always had a cost paid by someone else on behalf of all of us.

Today, we pause to remember those who made that sacrifice and the loved ones who continue to carry it forward long after the ceremonies end.

We owe them more than remembrance for one day each year. We owe them gratitude worthy of their sacrifice.

I’m proud to announce my appointment to the American Jail Association Board of Directors for the 2026–2027 term.

Serving in this capacity is both a privilege and a responsibility I do not take lightly. Throughout my career, I have been committed to advancing professionalism in corrections, supporting the development of future leaders, and promoting innovative and effective practices within our facilities.

The AJA plays a critical role in shaping the future of our profession, and I look forward to contributing to that mission alongside an outstanding group of correctional professionals from across the country.

I am especially grateful to my colleagues and mentors for their continued support.
