Service. Leadership. Country. These core values define the young men and women who step forward to attend our nation’s service academies.
Congratulations to some of eastern North Carolina’s newest service academy appointees: Joshua Taylor (U.S. Military Academy), Estelle Chafin & Brayden Wolford (U.S. Naval Academy), and Harry Gribbin & Reilly Novchich (U.S. Air Force Academy).
You have made your family, your community, and eastern North Carolina proud. Now prepare to lead!

Nothing says summer in eastern North Carolina like baseball under the lights and the cracks of the bat.
Great spending time with the Tarboro River Bandits and members of the Tarboro Municipal Stadium Preservation Foundation to celebrate a community treasure filled with history, memories, and hometown pride. Places like this are where generations come together, traditions continue, and communities grow stronger.

Edwin Clemmons, a resident of Robersonville, is committed to preserving history, strengthening community bonds, and creating opportunities for future generations. As a founding member and executive director of the Martin County Juneteenth Collective, Edwin has helped grow one of the region’s most meaningful celebrations of culture, heritage, and community.
Through the Martin County Juneteenth Collective, Edwin leads programs and events that bring people together while promoting education, outreach, and community involvement. The organization’s annual Juneteenth celebration has become a flagship event in Martin County, attracting hundreds of attendees, supporting local businesses, and providing a space for families to honor history. Besides his community work, Edwin also works as a boiler operator at East Carolina University.
We are proud to recognize Edwin Clemmons for his leadership, his dedication to preserving history, and his commitment to building a stronger community for future generations.
A child’s dreams should not be limited.

When many families don't know where else to turn, they turn to the faith community.
Across eastern North Carolina, churches have always been places of hope, service, and leadership. Thankful for the opportunity to sit down with clergy at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church to discuss the challenges families are facing and the opportunities ahead.

Rural healthcare is about our families. It is the healthcare workers who know their patients by name, the families who depend on them, and the communities they serve.
Thankful for the opportunity to visit Bertie County Rural Health, meet with the team, and discuss how we continue supporting quality healthcare access across eastern North Carolina.

Great visit to Clarine’s House and learning more about their efforts to support residents in Bertie and Hertford counties. By providing stable housing, accountability, and tools for success, they are helping people rebuild their lives and futures while strengthening the families and communities we all call home.
