In the inaugural edition of 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬, a new interview series featuring ambassadors to the UAE, Entrepreneur Middle East spotlights H.E. Lucie Berger, Ambassador of the European Union to the United Arab Emirates ().

In a conversation with Sarah Saddouk (), Director of Innovation, Entrepreneur Middle East | Entrepreneur IMPACT. – BNC Media Group, H.E. Berger discusses the growing EU-UAE trade and investment ties, particularly following the launch of EU-UAE Free Trade Agreement negotiations. Alongside broader Strategic Partnership Agreement negotiations, these efforts can serve as a catalyst for stronger relations between the EU, the UAE, and the wider GCC.

H.E. Berger, who took on the role of European Union Ambassador to the UAE in September 2023, highlights that recent geopolitical shifts have accelerated rather than delayed trade negotiations between the UAE and the EU.

“The free trade agreement is even more important today than it was before,” she says. “Since the launch of the negotiations, both sides have demonstrated a strong commitment to concluding the agreement in record time."

“Why is it so important now? We are living in turbulent times. A free trade agreement with the EU gives the UAE enhanced access to the world’s largest single market, comprising 450 million people. Through provisions such as investment facilitation, greater trade liberalization, and enhanced customs cooperation, it helps build economic resilience. Greater resilience means being better prepared for future challenges while creating a more attractive environment for investors," H.E. Berger adds.

Last night, we launched the first-ever European Film Festival in Ras Al Khaimah with .ae in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

In her opening remarks, Her Excellency Lucie Berger, EU Ambassador to the UAE, said: “This initiative reflects the growing partnership between the European Union and the United Arab Emirates, built on mutual respect, shared interests, and a belief in the importance of cultural exchange as a bridge between people.”

Audiences then enjoyed the screening of the Maltese film The Theft of the Caravaggio, a mystery drama exploring the importance of art, identity and family.

The European Film Festival continues in Ras Al Khaimah throughout the week until 6 June, with daily screenings of European and Emirati films.

‏أطلقنا مساء أمس، بالتعاون مع ‎فن رأس الخيمة، أول نسخة من مهرجان الفيلم الأوروبي في رأس الخيمة، بحضور صاحب السمو الشيخ سعود بن صقر القاسمي، عضو المجلس الأعلى حاكم رأس الخيمة.

وفي كلمتها الافتتاحية، قالت سعادة لوسي بيرجر، سفيرة الاتحاد الأوروبي لدى دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة: «تعكس هذه المبادرة الشراكة المتنامية بين الاتحاد الأوروبي ودولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، القائمة على الاحترام المتبادل والمصالح المشتركة والإيمان بأهمية التبادل الثقافي كجسر يربط بين الشعوب.»

واستمتع الحضور بعد ذلك بعرض الفيلم المالطي "سرقة كارافاجيو"، وهو فيلم درامي غامض يستكشف أهمية الفن والهوية والعائلة.

ويستمر مهرجان الفيلم الأوروبي في رأس الخيمة طوال الأسبوع حتى 6 يونيو، مع عروض يومية لأفلام أوروبية وإماراتية.
