The Embassy of Kenya in Angola joined African Missions in Luanda, led by the Dean, Amb Mohamed Ebade of Mauritania in celebrating the 63rd anniversary of the African Union. The event brought together guests for an evening of reflection, vibrant culture, rich histories and boundless potential of our beautiful continent.
The event, co-organised by the African Ambassadors Group and the Ministry of External Relations was graced by Chief Guest, H.E Amb Tete Antonio, Minister of External Relations of Angola, Carlos Alberto Pinto de Sousa, Secretary of State for Health; Arlindo Carlos, Secretary of State for Energy.
In keeping with the AU theme of the Year: “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063” the speakers reflected on the journey to African Liberation – the achievements, challenges and lessons learned, and narrowed down to the nexus between sustainable water and sanitation supply, energy and development.
In his speech, H.E. Tete Antonio noted that despite completion of the country’s term as President of the African Union, Angola remains firmly committed to the objectives of the AU and the mandates of its various bodies in the materialisation of African development. Minister Antonio noted also that in this respect, access to drinking water and sanitation is not just a technical issue, but also a political commitment that he would be advancing jointly with the Ministers of Health and Energy.
The afternoon was further brought to life with vibrant traditional dancers and a delicious showcase of authentic African cuisine — a true celebration of culture, heritage, and national pride. The Minister visited each of the 19 stands of the various missions to sample the delicacies presented. At the Kenya stand, we were glad to share about our menu, serving the Minister ‘chai ya maziwa’ and chapati.
