As part of Refugee Week, Adelaide High School welcomed Nazdana Hussaini from the Australian Refugee Association for a powerful presentation in which she shared her personal story.
Nazdana spoke about her and her family’s incredibly difficult journey from Afghanistan to Australia. Her story was deeply moving, and our senior students were engaged throughout the presentation. Many had their own values and assumptions thoughtfully challenged, and we are confident they will carry a great deal with them to reflect on in the days ahead.
Refugee Week, held from 14–20 June, raises awareness of the issues affecting refugees while also celebrating the rich cultural and social contributions they make to communities.

The Australian Government is introducing AusAlert, a new national emergency warning system that will send alerts to mobile devices during disasters such as bushfires, severe weather and public health emergencies.
Before it goes live in October 2026, the system will be tested nationwide as part of the AusAlert national test.
On Monday 27 July 2026 at around 1:30 pm ACST, young people across all states and territories may receive a test alert on compatible devices, including phones, tablets, smartwatches and children’s safety watches, during school hours.
If a device is on, the test will:
• vibrate
• play a loud siren-like sound for 10 seconds
This will happen even if devices are on silent, low volume or Do Not Disturb.
What to do:
• Visit ausalert.gov.au to learn more
• Familiarise young people with the alert sound and videos
• Remind students to follow school instructions on the day, such as turning devices off, switching to aeroplane mode or storing them safely
More information: ausalert.gov.au

Last Thursday and Friday, Stage 1 Biology students ventured to the Adelaide Zoo to observe a variety of animal species and their habitats. The excursion supported their current ecology studies, allowing students to explore ecological niches, conservation efforts and the complex relationships between organisms and their environments. Through firsthand observations, students gained valuable insights into biodiversity and the importance of protecting wildlife for future generations. Of course, the day also provided plenty of opportunities to see some very cute animals up close, making the learning experience both educational and memorable.

SACE Drama students present 'This Changes Everything' by Joel Horwood.
Secrets, friendships, and life-changing choices collide in a story that challenges, from an adolescent perspective, the driving need for action.
Is real change possible?
What does it look like?
…will learned behaviour and humanities need to control, destroy the possibility of finding the answers we seek?
A cross between Lord of the Flies, and Animal Farm, This Changes Everything is ultimately a tale of crisis.

Last Thursday, a group of year 9-11 students took part in a mock Model United Nations Evatt competition, which was aimed to help them prepare for the upcoming Competition with UN Youth SA. During the session, students briefly learnt about Model UN procedures and basic fundamentals, before participating in a mock EVATT round. The round provided a valuable opportunity for participants to build confidence, develop their understanding of international diplomacy, and gain practical experience before representing their allocated countries in the official competition.

Adelaide High School and One TEEN Theatre Company’s year 10 Drama students brought Much Ado About Clubbing, by Andrew Fusek Peters and Polly Peters, to life in a fast-paced, high-energy performance last Thursday afternoon.
Set on a chaotic Saturday night out, the play was filled with humour, awkward encounters, and larger-than-life characters navigating a night that doesn’t quite go to plan.
Through a highly collaborative and creative process, the students put on a vibrant production full of personality, energy, and heart.

There are still two weeks left to donate to Adelaide High School’s Food Drive initiative, run by the Interact Club!
Check out our latest leaderboard as the houses compete for the highest number of donations.
A reminder to all students and families that non-perishable food items can still be dropped into the collection bins outside Student Services. All donations will support people in need within our community, and the house with the most donations will earn valuable house points.

What an incredible day for West House!
A massive thank you to everyone who got involved in our Big Freeze fundraiser. Thanks to the support of students, staff and families, we raised over $2,000 for FightMND – more than double our original goal of $1,000! We also sold over $2,500 of merchandise through the school!
Of course, none of this would have been possible without our staff volunteers, West House Leaders, and everyone who bought a slushie, cupcake, brownie, piece of merchandise, or had a go at one of the activities.
We are incredibly proud of what our school community achieved. Not only did we have a lot of fun, but we also raised important funds and awareness for people living with Motor Neurone Disease.
