Historic House Museum & Garden So please take the time to visit us and discover what makes Carrick Hill so special to South Australians. Enjoy yourself.

Carrick Hill is fortunate in being one of the few period homes in Australia to survive with its original contents almost completely intact and its grounds undiminished. It was a centre of stylish living; and friends hold fond memories of a house constantly filled with laughter, parties, artists, music, good wine, fine food and dancing; and heady with the scent of masses of flowers. While those days

🦏🦒🌿 Did you know the gardens at Carrick Hill help feed some very special South Australians?

Recently, oak and ficus clippings from our gardens made their way to Monarto Safari Park, where they were enjoyed by Induna the black rhino and the park's giraffes.

It's wonderful to know that a small part of Carrick Hill is bringing enjoyment to some of the incredible animals at Monarto. 💚

Did you know?

Carrick Hill is considered Australia’s most intact period mansion.

When Sir Edward and Ursula Hayward gifted their home to the people of South Australia, they left behind not just the house, but its original interiors, art collection, furnishings and gardens. Today, it remains one of the few period homes in the country where the contents are still in place.

Step inside and you'll discover works by renowned artists including Gauguin, Dobell and Sickert, sculptures by Jacob Epstein, and rare William Morris furnishings.

Learn more on a guided House Museum tour or explore at your own pace with our audio guide.
