🤖 What experts are predicting for AI's next wave
What will artificial intelligence look like in 2028? According to experts from the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML), Salesforce, Stone & Chalk and LoopSoup, the answer goes far beyond chatbots and content generation.
From autonomous AI agents that rapidly adapt and evolve within their environments and handle sensitive workflows securely, to 'solopreneurs' running multimillion-dollar companies with no employees, supported entirely by fleets of AI agents, the next few years could fundamentally change how we work, build and innovate.
Discover what some of South Australia's leading AI thinkers predict is coming next in the latest feature from Boundless_05.

🔬QuantX Labs secures landmark investment to accelerate global expansion
Lot Fourteen-based QuantX Labs has secured a landmark investment from global critical technologies investor Serendipity Capital, marking the firm's first investment in an Australian company.
The funding will accelerate the commercialisation and export of QuantX Labs' next-generation optical atomic clocks and quantum sensing technologies, supporting growing global demand across the Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) and sensing markets.
It will also support the company's plans to scale manufacturing, grow its Adelaide-based workforce and expand deployment of its TEMPO optical atomic clock platform to customers across the defence, space, telecommunications, critical infrastructure and navigation sectors worldwide.
The investment is a strong endorsement of both QuantX Labs' technology and its vision to establish Australia as a global leader in sovereign quantum-enabled capabilities. 👏

🌏 Coras acquired by global engineering and nuclear services firm AtkinsRéalis.
Defence and national security consultancy Coras, based at Lot Fourteen, entered a definitive acquisition agreement with the Canadian engineering and nuclear company last month.
Coras specialises in defence and national security advisory services, including strategy, program management, governance and assurance. The acquisition strengthens AtkinsRéalis' position in the Australian defence market, providing earlier advisory engagement opportunities that can lead to higher-value, longer-term projects.
The move forms part of AtkinsRéalis' broader expansion in Australia and reflects continued confidence in the nation's growing defence and national security sector, with South Australia playing a key role in delivering future capability.

⚛️ Australian quantum technology is officially in orbit 🚀
A subsystem payload of TEMPO, the compact optical atomic clock developed by QuantX Labs, has successfully launched aboard a SpaceX mission, marking one of the most advanced Australian-built quantum technologies ever deployed in space.
Developed in partnership with the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS), the technology has applications across resilient communications, navigation and defence capability in GPS-denied environments.
The launch coincided with a major period for Australia’s quantum sector, including World Quantum Day, the release of the National Defence Strategy and the recent Quantum Australia Conference 2026 in Adelaide.
With Adelaide University, Defence Trailblazer and Lot Fourteen, South Australia is continuing to strengthen its position as a national hub for quantum timing, sensing and defence applications.

💡 Inspiring the next generation through STEM and culture
A collaboration between future Innovation Centre tenant BAE Systems Australia and Lot Fourteen tenant Makers Empire has brought STEM, culture and creativity together for the next generation.
Yitpi Yartapuultiku Aboriginal Cultural Centre recently hosted a free 4-day school holiday program for students aged 11–15. Delivered by Makers Empire and supported by BAE Systems Australia, the program invited young people to explore their connection to Country through immersive technology, storytelling and hands-on challenges.
Across the week, students connected with Aboriginal culture, built digital and 3D design skills, and explored sustainability through hands-on STEM experiences. They also heard directly from BAE Systems Australia professionals about their career journeys and the pathways available into future-focused industries.
