π Reading is more than just picking up a book with extensive research showing reading can provide many health benefits.
Here are top 5 reasons to join in the Warm Winter Read:
1. Reading reduces stress - reading for five-minutes a day has been shown to reduce stress.
2. Reading makes us feel less lonely - reading is a solitary act, but studies show that reading can make us feel more connected and less alone.
3. Reading helps us get a better night's sleep - unlike other activities of leisure such as watching TV or using social media, reading associates with an emotionally and mentally 'engaged' form of relaxation.
4. Reading reduces risk of depression - research suggests that regular reading may also correlate with improvements to mental health conditions such as depression.
5. Reading help us understand difficult situations - research from the University of Liverpool surveyed readers who said a book helped them realise that other people have gone through something similar and feel better about their life.
Join up to the Warm Winter Read and reconnect with reading this winter.
Warm Winter Read runs until 31 August and there are great prizes to be won.
