More Than Just a Meal isn't just our tagline – it's our mission ❤
We know how important it is for people to stay connected to their community, maintain a sense of belonging, and access the support services available to them. We also understand that financial, health, and other barriers can sometimes make it difficult to get out and about.
That's why we're always looking for opportunities to partner with local organisations, community groups, and support services to help our clients enjoy experiences and connections they might not otherwise have.
Pictured are two of our wonderful clients, June and Brenda, who recently attended the BlueCare Respite Centre Open Day at Rangeview with support from our team. The ladies enjoyed a lovely morning tea, took part in activities, and connected with others in a welcoming and supportive environment.
The fun didn't stop there for June and Brenda! Yesterday, some of our amazing volunteers accompanied them to a music performance and morning tea at Ashgrove Baptist Church.
A heartfelt thank you to our volunteers, community partners, and everyone involved in creating these wonderful opportunities. Your support helps make meaningful connections, memorable experiences, and a stronger sense of community possible for our clients.

Each day, up to 18 dedicated volunteers help prepare and deliver meals to those in our community.
Every single one of them plays a vital role in helping us provide More Than Just a Meal — offering not only nourishment, but also care, connection, and a friendly face at the door.
This month and next, these wonderful people are celebrating their volunteering anniversary with Ashgrove Meals on Wheels - thank you for being part of the AMoW family 💙

In the spirit of National Volunteer Week, we’d like to continue recognising some of our incredible volunteers.
Today’s story is a little different from the ones we’ve shared earlier this week. It’s the story of a past volunteer whose dedication helped shape Ashgrove Meals on Wheels from the very beginning.
Frank’s journey with Ashgrove Meals on Wheels has spanned almost 55 years. He was one of a small group of local community members who formed our original committee in 1971, later serving as Committee President from 1974 to 1982. Even after his presidency, Frank remained on the Management Committee until 1992.
Both Frank and his late wife Margaret shared a long and meaningful connection with our organisation. Frank organised fundraising raffles and helped set up stalls before heading off to work each day, while Margaret was part of the sewing group whose handmade cushions became a remarkably successful fundraising initiative.
Together, the dedication and hard work of volunteers like Frank and Margaret helped raise the funds needed to build the premises from which Ashgrove Meals on Wheels still operates today.
Now a valued client of our service, Frank’s Meals on Wheels journey has almost come full circle. Over the decades, he has seen our organisation evolve from delivering hot meals out of car boots in the 1970s to offering today’s wide range of high-quality meals, salads, sandwiches, soups, desserts and more.
Pictured here celebrating his 93rd birthday last week, we would like to wish Frank a very happy birthday — and sincerely thank him for the incredible contribution he made in helping found Ashgrove Meals on Wheels.

National Volunteer Week celebrations continued… 💙
Meals on Wheels has been part of the lives of many of our incredible volunteers for decades — and Amanda is just one wonderful example.
“Early memories of accompanying my mum on Meals on Wheels runs in Adelaide back in the 1960s, and seeing the sign outside Meals on Wheels Ashgrove from the window of the bus every afternoon planted the seed that ‘one day’ I’d volunteer too.
That day came in 2021, and since then I’ve volunteered in the kitchen, as a delivery driver, and for the last few years as a Committee member,” explains Amanda.
Not only does Amanda deliver meals and contribute to organisational decision-making as a Committee member, but since 2025 she has also produced our client newsletter, playing a vital role in ensuring our service continues to operate smoothly and sustainably for the community we serve.
We are so grateful for our volunteers. Every day, up to 18 dedicated volunteers help prepare and deliver meals across our community. They generously use their own vehicles and cover their own fuel costs — a commitment that is especially meaningful during the current cost of living pressures.
Please join us in thanking our incredible volunteers by leaving a comment below 👇
