"I'll check the emergency kit some other time."
Think again, that might just be the day you need it! ☔
Winter is the perfect time to give your emergency kit a refresh because it’s best to prepare BEFORE you need it. You might be surprised just how long ago you bought those batteries!
Take a look through your kit and check for:
✔️ Expired food, water and medications
✔️ Flat batteries in torches and radios
✔️ Out-of-date contact details
✔️ Damaged power banks and charging cables
✔️ Missing first aid supplies
A 10-minute check now could save a lot of stress later, when you're dealing with a storm, flood, power outage or another emergency.
👉 Set aside a few minutes this weekend and give your emergency kit a quick winter refresh. Head to https://ow.ly/yuWN50Zeu5f for more tips on what can be included in your kit.

Back in January 2011, it took just three days for Brisbane to go from a busy river city to a disaster zone.
Lives were lost, homes and businesses went under, and thousands of people who thought they were safe discovered they were living in flood-prone areas.
Brissy peeps, just like all Queenslanders, need to know their flood risk, stay connected, and have a plan before the next wet season rolls in.

📻 Yes, a battery-powered radio. No, we're not joking.
Yeah we know, it's giving "dad's garage shelf circa 1998” vibes…
But when severe weather hits, power and mobile networks can drop out without warning. That means no internet, no apps, no updates. Your phone is a useless brick!
A battery-powered radio connects you to official warnings and emergency information when everything else goes down.
Simple. Reliable. Works when you need it most.
To keep yours ready to go:
✔️ Check it works at least once a year
✔️ Keep spare batteries handy

Do you know why cyclones spin clockwise in Australia? 🌪️
This happens due to the Earth’s rotation! The Coriolis effect makes cyclones rotate clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere - the opposite of hurricanes and typhoons in the Northern Hemisphere, which spin counterclockwise.
But no matter which way they turn, cyclones can be destructive - Queenslanders know this better than most. We’ve faced some powerful ones over the years, from Cyclone Mahina in the late 1800s to Cyclone Narelle earlier this year.
