One of the most exciting times of year at Lone Pine is joey season. 🐨💚

Koala joeys spend around six months developing inside their mother's pouch before gradually venturing out to explore the world around them.

Some of our resident joeys are now reaching this exciting stage too!

But it's not just at Lone Pine. Across eastern Australia, many wild koala joeys are also beginning to explore life outside the pouch.

When driving in koala habitat areas, remember to slow down and stay alert, especially at dawn and dusk when koalas are most active.

If you come across an injured or deceased koala, remember there could be a joey in the pouch so contact RSPCA Wildlife Rescue on 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625) for assistance.

Happy World Tree Kangaroo Day! 🌿

Lone Pine is lucky to be home to Sofus, our Lumholtz’s tree kangaroo, and we think she’s pretty stunning. 🐾

Lumholtz’s tree kangaroos are found only in the rainforests of Far North Queensland, making them one of Australia’s most unique marsupials.

Protecting rainforest habitats and learning more about native wildlife helps protect species like Sofus for future generations. 🌱

From supporting our wildlife team behind the scenes to welcoming guests and sharing their knowledge with visitors each day, our volunteers play an important role across the sanctuary.
