Men’s Health Week (15-21 June) creates an opportunity to reflect on how quickly life can change and how deeply men can endure in silence.

For Desmond, known to most as Dessy, life changed forever in a single moment.

At 32, he was legally blind after a fall left both his optic nerves severely damaged.
He lost his independence and his confidence.

But Dessy didn't stop there. With the right support, he found his way back.

This Men's Health Week, Dessy's story is a reminder that even in life's bleakest moments, strength, purpose and brighter future are still possible. 💙

Last weekend we attended the annual Australian National Chinese Women’s Federation (ANCWF) Multicultural Festival celebrating the richness and diversity within Brisbane multicultural community.🧡🩷💜

With around 300 attendees, the event featured inspiring speakers from multicultural leaders, local and federal representatives and cultural performances from across China, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Mexico and others.

The multicultural festival brought communities together in a colourful celebration of culture and connection, supported by distinguished guests including Julie-Ann Campbell MP, Senator Paul Scarr, Dr Christian Rowan MP, James Martin MP, Robert Molhoek MP, Councillor Steven Huang, Lewis Lee OAM, and Anna Rolandsen from the Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland.

We enjoyed connecting with community members at our stall, sharing information about supports and services for people with disability and their carers.

Held on 6 June, also celebrated as Queensland Day, the festival honoured the cultures that make Queensland such a diverse and welcoming place.

Thank you ANCWF for the invitation and congratulations on delivering such a fantastic event.

We look forward to many more to come. 🫶

In recognition of Pride Month, we are sharing Sam’s Story. 🏳️‍🌈

Pride Month is a time to celebrate identity, independence, and the journeys that make it possible to live authentically.🍭

For Sam, 26, from North Brisbane, this means living independently, working in a pharmacy, and confidently managing everyday life—milestones achieved through ongoing support, determination and the assistance of the NDIS.

Diagnosed as neurodivergent as a teenager, Sam faced challenges many didn’t see.

Today, their story is a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion for the LGBTQIA+ community, including the right NDIS supports needed to build capacity.
