On Tuesday, 16 June 2026, at 2:00 pm, the new AusAlert national warning system will be tested in your area ahead of national testing later this year. This system is designed to send emergency alerts to mobile devices like phones, tablets, and smartwatches.

What you need to know:
📢 The test alert will include a loud siren-like sound and a vibration lasting about 10 seconds.
📱 If you have a hidden or safe phone, this alert could expose your device.
🔕 To stay safe, you can turn off your device or switch it to aeroplane mode before 2:00 pm and leave it off for at least one hour.

When Emma was little, she used to come into the hospital and visits patients while her mum was on shift as a nurse. 👩🏼‍⚕️

Fast forward to now, she is the Registered Nurse Amy Enderlin Excellence Award winner for 2026.

"I feel really honoured," Emma said. 🏆

"I love being able to be at the forefront of helping others and make a difference in people's lives. I've been surrounded by people that have helped me and it's nice to be able to pay that forward."

Emma is General Medicine's first Nurse Practitioner (NP) at Gold Coast University Hospital, saying getting her NP was a career highlight.

"Getting to help and care for people further is really rewarding," she said.

Emma received the prestigious Amy Enderlin RN award for her dedication, impact, and exceptional contribution to improving general medical care, successfully implementing a new flow model of care that will improve access, safety and continuity of care. 🤝

The Queensland Government is setting a new direction for people to feel safe in their relationships and in our communities with the launch of the Safer Families, Safer Communities: A Domestic and Family Violence Reform Strategy for Queensland.

It focuses on preventing domestic and family violence, early intervention, accountability and support for long-term recovery and healing.

🤝 Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Prevention Queensland

Dami Im is back in her jazz groove and Queensland is cheering. 👏🎶

Her win in the Jazz category at the 2026 Queensland Music Awards, supported by the Queensland Government, marks a return to the music that shaped her early career.

Before the spotlight of The X Factor - Australia and the global stage of the Eurovision Song Contest, Dami was honing her skills in jazz clubs, singing and playing piano to build the foundation for everything that came after.

She says reconnecting with jazz, through her award-winning track Bubble, feels grounding. Especially after years of navigating what it means to be Korean‑Australian and often feeling caught between identities. Now she hopes her music and her visibility help other immigrants feel like they belong in Australia’s story too.

A passionate advocate for equality in Australian music, Dami is also a proud recipient of an Australian Women in Music (AWMA) Award, recognising her significant contributions to the industry and her efforts to empower women in the arts.

As Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month draws to a close, we’re reflecting on the important work being done to help women impacted by domestic and family violence rebuild.

Broken to Brilliant is helping women take control of their financial futures through their empowering Financial Superwomen workshops.

"I knew that financial insecurity kept women and children in unsafe situations. As a result, the Financial Superwomen workshop was born." said Karen Linsday, Director of Broken to Brilliant.

Now, thanks to an Empowering Queensland Women grant, this powerful workshop model is expanding to North Queensland! In June, free workshops will be held in:
📍 Townsville – 11 June
📍 Airlie Beach – 13 June
📍 Mackay – 14 June

These workshops are designed for women who have experienced domestic and family violence, helping them build financial confidence and knowledge. With a train-the-trainer approach, this initiative is also building long-term capacity to ensure ongoing support for women in the community.
