Queensland history has been made—our state’s first 3-storey modular social housing in Yeppoon! 🏠

Built with expertise from Hutchinson Builders factory, the towering beauty offers 6x 1- and 15x 2-bedroom units located close to shops, schools and community services.

Once completed later this year, these homes will provide safe and stable homes for the most vulnerable on the Capricorn Coast.

Public housing is a type of social housing. This housing is 100% owned by the State of Queensland, and is for vulnerable people who aren’t able to rent a home.

In public housing, you pay a percentage of your household’s assessable income as rent instead of a fixed rental price. If your income goes up or down, your rent can go up or down as well.

Not everyone can get public housing, but you can check if you’re eligible on our website.

We want to make sure we’re delivering housing that suits the cultural needs of First Nations peoples living in Queensland. That’s why we’re developing a First Nations Housing Design Guideline.

Consultation is the first step of the process—we have 2 surveys available now.

A survey for people with experience living in First Nations housing: https://burrundidesignstudio.snapforms.com.au/form/first-nations-housing-design-guideline---lived-experience-survey
This should take about 10 minutes.

A survey for architects, builders, developers, community housing providers and peak bodies with experience in researching, delivering or managing First Nations housing: https://burrundidesignstudio.snapforms.com.au/form/first-nation-housing-design-guideline---delivery-survey
This should take about 10-15 minutes to complete.

NOTE: This consultation is specifically for the First Nations Housing Design Guideline. We held consultation for the broader Social Housing Design Guideline last year. We’ll let you know when the updates have been finalised.

“It’s taking me a little while to really believe that it has happened. This home is mine.”

Desley and her loyal companion, Milly, are settling into their home and making friends at a new social housing complex in Capalaba! These 15x homes are now fully tenanted under the Long-Term Community Housing Program—an initiative that partners with community housing providers and delivers long-term stable housing for people in need.

A solo parent, Desley has built successful careers in accounting, science, conservation and research, alongside a lifetime of adventures including more than 40 years of sailing and caravanning. Her exciting stories are cherished by her 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Desley struggled to find a stable, affordable rental home in her later years. Thanks to our partner, Mangrove Housing and The Forgotten Women initiative, Desley received private rental assistance before moving into the new complex.

“I’m just so grateful to Mangrove Housing, and to everyone who has helped me along this stressful journey,” she says. “I had lost faith in ever finding a place, but others gave me encouragement to keep fighting.”

More housing help is on the way for young Queenslanders in Toowoomba! A proposed youth foyer will provide 40 self-contained units for young people aged 16-25 facing housing insecurity who are committed to engaging in education, training or employment.

Following our successful youth foyers in Logan, the Gold Coast and Townsville, we’re building another eight across the state. Toowoomba is the latest proposed development; Brisbane, Ipswich and Sunshine Coast youth foyers were announced last month, with the construction of a new foyer already underway in Cairns, and designs being developed for Moreton Bay and Hervey Bay!

Youth foyers help young people aged 16-25 develop the skills they need to lead independent and productive lives. With 24/7 onsite support, they learn how to manage a rental property while working or studying. This helps young tenants transition into mainstream accommodation so they can get a great start for their future.
