ππ VM Students Put Their Numeracy Skills to the Test at IKEA!
Our Vocational Major (VM) students recently headed to IKEA for a hands-on numeracy excursion, applying their classroom learning in a real-world setting.
Students were challenged to calculate dimensions, compare prices, work within budgets, interpret floor plans, and make informed purchasing decisions while exploring a range of home and living spaces. The excursion encouraged students to think critically, solve practical problems, and see how numeracy is used every day in workplaces and life beyond school.
Experiences like these are a key part of the VM program, helping students connect their learning to authentic situations while building confidence, independence, teamwork and employability skills.
β Considering the Vocational Major pathway?
The VM pathway is designed for students who thrive through practical, hands-on learning and want to develop skills that prepare them for employment, apprenticeships, traineeships, TAFE or further training. Through industry experiences, excursions, workplace learning and real-world projects, students gain valuable knowledge and skills that support a successful transition beyond secondary school.
We are proud of the way our VM students represented the school and embraced the challenge of learning beyond the classroom

Yesterday some of our Year 7 girls competed on home turf in the netball round robin! It was a great day for all despite not bringing home the flag.
Our A teamgirls were amazing, with the first two games so close in scores and a big win in the final game. The girls worked so well together and kept pushing every second - very keen and confident for these girlsβ chances next year!
Our B and C teams also were fabulous despite some tricky umpiring and rules, coming home with a win in the final game for the Cβs and a tie for the Bβs.
Lots of glitter hair, Melba-coloured face paint and big smiles all around, showcasing a great sense of school spirit and pride!
A big shoutout to Miss Rose, Miss Hinton and PST Jordy for their help coaching and convening. And to Mr Warburton for organising everything else behind the scenes!

πβ¨ EVERY DAY COUNTS β 100% ATTENDANCE IN JUNE! β¨π
At Melba College, we know that every day at school matters. Learning, friendships, wellbeing, confidence and future opportunities are built through regular attendance β and even small absences can add up quickly.
Did you know?
π
Missing just one day a fortnight adds up to four weeks of learning missed across the school year.
π Research shows that every day a student misses can impact their learning in reading, writing and numeracy.
π€ Regular attendance also helps students build resilience, strengthen friendships, develop teamwork skills and maintain a strong sense of belonging at school.
This June, weβre encouraging all students to aim for 100% attendance and be part of our:
π― βNo Excuse, Donβt Hit Snooze β Be at School This June!β π―
Every lesson, every conversation, every opportunity and every achievement starts with being here.
Families can support by:
β
Establishing consistent morning routines
β
Booking appointments outside school hours where possible
β
Encouraging students to attend even when they may feel reluctant or have fallen behind
β
Communicating with the school if support is needed
We understand that illness and unexpected circumstances happen. If attendance is becoming challenging, please reach out β we are here to work alongside students and families to provide support.
Letβs make June a month of commitment, connection and success. Together, letβs see how many students can achieve 100% attendance and show that at Melba College, Every Day Counts! πππ«

The Year 9/10 boys football team played 3 games at Elgar Park on 14/5/26. The boys never gave up all day and all of them played with great spirit.
Every player showed determination, teamwork and resilience across all three matches, representing our school with pride and sportsmanship. It was fantastic to see the encouragement, effort and positive attitude shown both on and off the field.
At Melba College, interschool sport is just one of the many opportunities students have to build confidence, teamwork, friendships and school pride while staying active and connected to the wider school community.
Well done boys on an outstanding day of competition and teamwork! ππ
Our Y9/10 Soccer girls also did us proud. Their teamwork, fair play & enjoyment was a delight to watch. Well done girls!!
