Would you use a robot to fight a fire?

This remote operated firefighting platform can be controlled from a safe distance while delivering water where it’s needed most.

Technology is changing the way emergency services operate, creating new ways to improve safety in high risk environments.

Do you think equipment like this will become more common in emergency services over the next 10 years?

Some days the workshop floor tells the story better than the finished vehicle.

While one truck is being wired, another is being fitted out.

While one vehicle is nearing delivery, another is just getting started.

Building specialised emergency vehicles isn’t a single project.

It’s multiple teams, multiple disciplines and multiple vehicles moving through the workshop at the same time.

That’s what keeps emergency services fleets moving.

This is just another day at R.A. Bell.

Before these vehicles enter service, every major system gets tested.

Pump systems, water flow, pressure, electrical controls and operational functions are all checked before delivery.

A quick look behind the scenes at some of the testing and workshop process that happens before these trucks head out into the field.

Not every stage of a build looks polished.

Inside the cab, there’s a lot happening before the vehicle reaches the road. Wiring, controls, dash integration and internal systems all need to be installed, checked and fitted around how the crew will actually use the truck in the field.

It’s one of those parts of the build most people never see, but it plays a big role in making the vehicle functional, reliable and ready for emergency service.

Built with the end user in mind, not just the final look.

A lot of the work on emergency service vehicles comes down to the details.

Checking fitment.
Testing systems.
Making adjustments.
Making sure everything is ready before the vehicle moves onto the next stage of the build.

A lot happens behind the scenes before these trucks enter service.

A lot happening in one photo. 👀

Pressure gauges, valves, hose reels, pump controls and water flow systems all working together from the rear pump panel of this NSW RFS Cat 6 build.

Behind every panel layout is a combination of engineering, operational design and manufacturing. The goal is not just to make the system work, but to make it practical and intuitive for crews operating under pressure in the field.

This is a big part of the process at R.A. Bell. Designing and building vehicles around real world operation and usability.

The body stage is where the vehicle really starts to come together.

Locker layouts, equipment access, weight distribution and storage positioning all need to be considered before final fit out begins.

Every compartment is designed with how crews will actually use the vehicle in mind. Quick access, efficient workflow and practical storage out in the field.

This one is starting to take shape. 👀

Different builds. Different systems. One R.A. Bell team.

A quick look at some of the fabrication, testing and emergency vehicles moving through our Victorian and Queensland workshops.

From sparks flying in fabrication, through to finished trucks ready for service, this is the part of the build most people do not get to see.

Across both sites, the focus stays the same. Practical engineering, careful fitout and vehicles built for the crews who

A lot happens inside the workshop before a vehicle ever hits the road.

From emergency service builds through to hydro excavation units, multiple projects can be moving through different stages at the same time. Fabrication, electrical, plumbing, fit out, testing and final delivery.

Every section of the workshop plays a role in getting these vehicles ready for the field.

This Cat 6 tanker is now in service with NSW RFS, built for regional operations where water capacity, reliability, and access all matter.

Bushfire response is never one size fits all. Different terrain and different brigades all have different needs.

For the firies out there, what is one thing people would be surprised to learn about trucks like this?
