Once A Student, Always KHS Familyππ«Άπ½π
We absolutely love it when alumni return to school β it gives staff a lift, informs and inspires students, and brings a renewed sense of pride.β¨β¨
Their visits remind our students that one day they will also miss being somewhere everyone knows them, cares for them, and wants the very best for them.π«π
It was such a joy to see these three alumni back on campus yesterday afternoon.ππ When we asked Jake, Danny and Alo what they would like to remind our current students of, their advice was simple:
βCome to school every day and make the most of it.βπ
βOnce you finish school, youβve got all the freedom in the world, so donβt waste the opportunities in front of you.βπ
βKeep connected to your friends from school- thereβs no one like them.βπ€
Weβre also looking forward to seeing these guys, along with other alumni, back at school on Sunday for our Gardening Bee & Sewing Bee.πͺπΌπΏ Past Landscape Lads - you guys especially! π
Also, special shout-out to Alessandro (Alo is pictured on the right), who has kindly offered to check and repair our school irrigation system given irrigation plumbing is his specialty!πͺ ππΌ
Members of the wider Kew community are encouraged to come along and help out or just pop by for a chat with Alo to discuss potential irrigation jobs they might have!π¨π½βπ§π¦

Exploring Future Pathwaysπ¨π
Recently, our Year 9 students visited Swinburne Universityβs Wantirna Campus to explore a range of exciting career pathways through hands-on learning experiences.π§π
Students had the opportunity to learn about and try their hand at industries including welding, bricklaying, electrical trades, allied health, early childhood education, and community services.πΆπΌβοΈ
With Australia continuing to face skills shortages across many industries, it is more important than ever that youth are exposed to a broad range of career options and pathways.ππ§
According to Jobs and Skills Australia, 29% of occupations across the country were identified as being in shortage in 2025, with significant gaps remaining in trades, construction, health and education sectors.π·π₯
Sometimes we don't know what we don't know, and experiences like these help students discover opportunities they may never have previously considered.π‘πͺ
By stepping into real-world learning environments and engaging directly with industry-specific activities, students gained valuable insights into the skills, qualifications and day-to-day realities of different careers.ππ

Max Takes on the Merv Dean Memorial Tour ππ΄
A challenging and rewarding weekend at the Merv Dean Memorial Tour of Bendigo saw Year 12 student, Max McKay finish 6th overall in the General Classification, just 46 seconds off the lead after three hard-fought stages.π΄ββοΈπ
Hosted by Bendigo & District Cycling Club, the three-stage tour featured sprint racing, hill climb challenges, and a fast-paced kermesse, with valuable bonus seconds on offer at intermediate sprints and climbs throughout the weekend.β°οΈβ‘
Max's stage results included 4th in the 55km sprint stage, 5th in the 66km hill climb stage, and 15th in the final 47km sprint stage.ππ¨
Reflecting on the tour, Max said, βI think I underestimated the bonus seconds available at the intermediate sprints and hill climbs throughout each stage.β π€π΄
βMy legs were pretty cooked by the end, but it was a great taste of what the Tour of Bright in December will be like.βπ₯πͺ
The event provided valuable experience against a strong field and highlighted just how important every second can be in stage racing.β±οΈπ―
Next up for Max is the Tour of Gippsland in August, which includes the State Road Race Championship.π΅ββοΈπ
Congratulations, Max, on a strong performance and best of luck for the races ahead.ππ
