Putting high beams on the Eastern Busway 🔦

Melbourne’s first dedicated busway is set to open in 2028 as part of the North East Link Project.

The Eastern Busway will run along the Eastern Freeway and feature 11km of express bus lanes from Doncaster Road to Hoddle Street, separate from freeway traffic for faster journeys between the city and Doncaster.

The busway combined with two Park and Rides in Doncaster and Bulleen will slash travel times for 6 million trips that use the freeway buses each year.

Check out Watsy's new look!

Traffic is now travelling on the Watsonia Road landscaped bridge for the first time, as works on the Elder Street landscaped bridge progress.

These new bridges will improve local connections to Watsonia Station and provide a green gateway to Watsonia shops, with more than 10km of new and upgraded walking and cycling paths in the area.

A tree-mendous effort! 🏡

Hundreds of trees have been delivered to local residents and schools to help green gardens as we upgrade the Eastern Freeway from Tram Road to Springvale Road.

With native species like wattles, bottlebrushes and gum trees sourced from Knoxbrooke Nursery, local backyards and school grounds are getting a green boost 🌳 — supporting our commitment to plant two trees for every one removed 🌱

From breakthrough to flythrough 🚁

Pull out the popcorn as we take you through over 5km of the TBM journey to form the northbound North East Link tunnel.

Now TBM Zelda has broken through, she’ll be shipped out to make way for TBM Gillian’s arrival in coming months.

Crews in the northbound tunnel are now focusing on tunnel fit out – moving us one step towards opening in 2028.

Reminder 🔔 The Eastern Freeway is closed this weekend.

From 10pm Friday 19 June to 5am, Monday 22 June the Eastern Freeway will be closed between Chandler Highway and Tram Road, along with some freeway ramps.

During these works, crews will continue asphalting new freeway lanes, complete works on the Bulleen Road and Belford Road bridges, as well as the Burke Road Ringwood-bound exit ramp.

Delays of up to 90 minutes are expected during peak times. Plan ahead at https://bit.ly/4qLs7DC

The Eastern Freeway is looking fresh 💅

Crews on the freeway have had some busy weekends since April with over 10,000 tonne of asphalt laid – paving the way for new lanes and connections.

To complete this campaign, the Eastern Freeway will be closed between Chandler Highway and Tram Road from 10pm Friday 19 June to 5am Monday 22 June as the remaining 9000 tonne is laid.

Once upgrades are complete in 2028 the Eastern Freeway will have an additional 6 lanes to ease congestion and get you home sooner.

An upgraded citybound entry ramp and lanes have entered the chat 🗨️

We’re upgrading ramps along the Eastern Freeway, including the Springvale Road citybound entry ramp which has been widened to include additional lanes.

While we work, part of the ramp will be used as a dedicated access point into the works site in Junction Road Reserve, keeping construction vehicles off local roads and separate to traffic.
