๐ŸŒฟ Outdoor Renovations Are Underway! ๐ŸŒฟ

We are very excited to share that Stage 1 of our outdoor redevelopment has begun!

A huge thank you to our kindergarten community, past and present whose fundraising efforts have helped make this project possible. We would also like to acknowledge the many people and organisations who have helped bring this project to life, including our teachers, educators and the children. Liz for securing the grant funding, Bec for coordinating with Playspace Industries and Justin Staggard landscape architect, our Committee of Management past and present for their ongoing support and commitment to improving our outdoor environment, as well as Kingston Council and the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) for their valued support and investment in our kindergarten. ๐Ÿ’š

Stage 1 includes:
โœจ Removal of the cubby house
โœจ Removing unused shade sail posts to create more open and flexible play spaces.
โœจ Building a new cubby house between our two beautiful paperbark trees, creating opportunities for imagination, collaboration and exploration.

The children have already been enjoying watching the builders at work and sharing their ideas about the changes taking place.

Swipe through to see the overall design and some photos of Stage 1 in progress. We canโ€™t wait to share more updates as our outdoor environment continues to grow and evolve! ๐ŸŒฑ

๐ŸŒˆ Exploring Feelings, Building Friendships ๐ŸŒˆ

In our Wombat group, children have been exploring emotions and developing their understanding of feelings through a range of intentional teaching experiences.

They have enjoyed reading โ€œThe Colour Monster,โ€ which uses colours to represent different emotions and supports children to recognise, identify and communicate their feelings.

Through discussions about small, medium and big problems, children are building their emotional literacy, developing a sense of identity and wellbeing and learning strategies to manage challenges, express their emotions and respond to the feelings of others.

These experiences support children to develop confidence, resilience, empathy and positive relationships with others.

During Reconciliation Week, all groups participated in activities inspired by this yearโ€™s theme, โ€˜All Inโ€™. As a collaborative project, the children created representations of the magpie family that lives at kinder, using loose parts, paint and paper.

We also moved our bodies to a poem written by Trish Bellaburra, titled The Dance of Country. Trish is a local Bunurong elder and a valued source of local knowledge and culture, which she generously shares with us and the children during her visits.

You can listen to the poem as a song here:

โ€ฆ.and read about reconciliation in her own words here:

โ€œIn early childhood, the heart of reconciliation begins by deeply connecting children to Countryโ€”to the plants, animals, and natural elements that surround us every day. When we invite children to truly see the natural world, to learn who these living elements are and discover the vital role they play in sustaining the land, we nurture a deep sense of belonging.

By fostering this early bond with the environment, we guide children to become more empathetic, compassionate, and caring protectors of our world.โ€

Thank you so much, Trish, for your ongoing support, guidance and generosity in sharing your knowledge with us. We are grateful for the opportunities to learn more about Aboriginal perspectives and connection to Country. We always enjoy having a yarn with you and look forward to your next visit to kinder.
